SOUTH BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk distributed food packages to 38 families affected by flooding in Rajik Village, Simpang Rimba District, South Bangka Regency, Thursday (30/6/2022).
This assistance is expected to help people who are victims of floods. So it can reduce their burden.
Rajik Village head, Yamin said 38 residents were affected by flooding with water levels reaching 70 cm to one meter. This flood, he said, was caused by rain that flushed the area for a day which coincided with the overflow of sea water.
"We really appreciate PT Timah's quick response to help residents affected by this flood," said Yamin.
He said this basic food assistance would be distributed to flood victims to meet their food needs.
"The food assistance in the form of hundreds of kilograms of rice, cooking oil, tea, instant noodles and thousands of eggs from PT Timah is really needed which will later be distributed to flood victims' homes, because some residents still stay at home to protect their property," he said.
Meanwhile, a resident of Rajik Susilawati Village said that flooding had hit residential areas since yesterday (29/6/2022) night.
"Last night, the flood began, around 23.00 WIB, other residents took refuge in neighboring places and some are still staying at home. Today the water has receded, it is possible that flooding will occur again at night because of the high tide from the sea," said Susilawati.
He was grateful for the assistance of basic food packages from PT Timah Tbk. Although the flood has receded, according to him, it will happen again at night when the tide is high.
"Alhamdulillah, there is assistance from PT Timah, this is very helpful for our residents. Because it is for food for residents affected by the flood. This is really needed by residents," he said.
