Pushing Food Security for Stunak Island Residents, PT Timah Tbk Provides Hydroponic Farming Training for Women's Group

KARIMUN -- The community empowerment program conducted by PT Timah Tbk in the Riau Islands Province continues. This TINS-coded issuer consistently empowers the community according to their potential and the community's economic development.

As in Stunak Island, Bone Village, Selat Gelam District, Karimun Regency, PT Timah Tbk has implemented a community empowerment program targeting women's groups through vegetable farming training using the hydroponic method.

Stunak Island has a soil culture that is considered unsuitable for agriculture due to its close proximity to the sea and the contours of the land with rocky hills and dominated by swamps. While the residents there generally work as fishermen.

So far, to get vegetables and other food needs, residents have to go to buy outside the island such as the Beliah Strait and Tanjung Balai Karimun.

For this reason, in order to improve food security on Stunak Island, PT Timah Tbk provides agricultural training with the hydroponic concept for residents.

With this training, it is hoped that the community, especially mothers on Stunak Island, will be able to be independent in providing vegetables for family consumption which are certainly safe and healthy.

In providing this training, PT Timah Tbk cooperated with agricultural extension workers from the Agriculture Service of Karimun Regency. It is hoped that this program will run well and be successful so that women can produce their own vegetables.

The women on Stunak Island were not only given an introduction to hydroponics, but also made nutrients for plants. PT Timah Tbk also provides
facilities and infrastructure in running a hydroponic farming business. Assistance provided such as pipes, seed foam and others. This equipment assistance is to make it easier for the community to implement hydroponic farming.

Aisyah, one of the participants, said she was very happy with the hydroponic training program provided by PT Timah to the people on the island of Stunak.

According to her, this program is very good to be developed in his area, because the natural conditions are not suitable for growing crops such as vegetables.

"Moreover, we consume vegetables every day, so I am happy and support this activity. I hope this program can be successful and successful so that the people of the Stunak Island can be independent in providing vegetables for good and healthy families," she said.
