PANGKALPINANG – In an effort to support the clean energy transition and mitigate the impacts of climate change, PT Timah Tbk continues to strengthen its commitment to implementing a measured and sustainable decarbonization strategy.
This initiative aligns with the government’s net-zero emissions target and is part of the company’s social and environmental responsibility.
PT Timah has developed a decarbonization roadmap to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target, in accordance with the Paris Agreement signed by the Indonesian government.
Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah, stated that several initiatives have been implemented to support decarbonization, including transitioning from diesel fuel to B35 biodiesel.
Additionally, to reduce emissions from fuel consumption in diesel power plants (PLTD), PT Timah has integrated its smelting plant into the national power grid (PLN) and optimized energy efficiency across all production lines.
PT Timah’s decarbonization efforts are carried out in line with the established roadmap, with greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions monitored monthly to ensure targets are met.
"One of the main steps taken by the company to implement its decarbonization strategy is executing the decarbonization roadmap, including integrating with PLN and enhancing energy efficiency," said Anggi.
Other initiatives include reducing fossil energy consumption through improved energy efficiency, utilizing environmentally friendly energy in operations, lowering carbon emissions for sustainable business, deploying high-tech eco-friendly assets, and investing in renewable energy development.
PT Timah has implemented a 10 kWP solar photovoltaic system in the reclamation areas of Air Jangkang and Selinsing and is progressing from B35 biodiesel to B100, depending on technological advancements.
The company is also modifying and maintaining mining equipment to ensure efficient energy use, as well as transitioning transportation and lifting equipment from fossil fuel to electric energy.
"The initiatives undertaken by PT Timah are expected not only to have a positive impact on the environment but also to enhance the company’s competitiveness in an increasingly green-oriented global industry," Anggi concluded.(*)
