PT Timah has long been a part of the community, contributing to local employment and enhancing the economy. The company collaborates with local governments, civil organizations, and development agencies to support sustainable social and economic development.
One of the main initiatives is the Program Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (PPM), designed to enhance the capabilities of individuals and groups, improving their quality of life. PPM programs are implemented across Bangka Belitung, Riau, and the Riau Islands, positively impacting communities in 2023.
Here are some of the key PPM programs implemented by PT Timah in 2023:
Pemali Boarding School
Established in 2000, this school provides opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Bangka Belitung, Karimun (Riau Islands), and Meranti (Riau). With over 851 alumni in various professions, it currently accommodates 108 students.
Fishing Ground Program
Launched in 2020, this program supports coastal communities affected by mining activities. By 2023, 170 additional rumpon (fish aggregating devices) were placed in Desa Rebo, helping improve fishermen's livelihoods.
Cultural Preservation Program
PT Timah is committed to preserving the traditions of the Mapor Indigenous community in Desa Gunung Muda, Bangka. The company built seven traditional houses and provided training in weaving, eco-printing, and local guidance to foster economic independence.
Social Security for Vulnerable Groups
As part of its community support, PT Timah will offer BPJS employment security to 450 fishermen in its operational areas in 2023.
POS PELAUT (Polikultur Silvofishery)
Aimed at empowering fishermen in Desa Sawang Laut, Karimun, this initiative fosters sustainable fish and mollusk farming in mangrove ecosystems, improving the livelihoods of local communities.
Salt Farming Program
PT Timah launched a salt farming initiative in East Belitung in collaboration with the local social forestry group, involving 18 members. In 2023, the project was enhanced to increase production.
PROTEIN NABATI (Integrated Plant-Based Innovation Program)
Focused on developing the agricultural sector in Desa Badau, Belitung, this program uses former mining lands to grow pineapples, promoting community-driven economic growth.
Sustainable Chicken Farming Program
Targeting food security, PT Timah supports women's empowerment in Desa Air Limau and Desa Belo Laut through sustainable chicken farming, egg hatching, composting, and feed production.
According to Anggi Siahaan, PT Timah’s Head of Corporate Communications, these programs fulfill corporate social responsibilities and empower communities towards economic independence.
