PT Timah's Initiatives in Supporting the Agricultural Sector, Contributing to Food Security Programs

PANGKALPINANG -- As a tangible contribution to sustainable development, PT Timah continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting Indonesia's agricultural sector.

This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to achieve food security and self-sufficiency, especially amid the challenges of an ever-changing global landscape.

PT Timah has launched a series of programs aimed at empowering farmers, increasing productivity, and strengthening the food supply chain in its operational areas in the Bangka Belitung Province and Riau Islands Province.

Through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility programs, PT Timah supports farmers by providing agricultural infrastructure and facilities, as well as training to boost agricultural productivity.

As a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, PT Timah has provided agricultural machinery to Bina Tailong Farmers Group and Maulana Bukit Naga Farmers Group in Karimun, and supported hydroponic farming for a women's group in Setunak.

In addition, PT Timah has also supported the Kulur Jaya Farmer Association in Central Bangka, provided rotary hand tractors and cultivators in Bangka Regency, and supported the development of facilities such as seedling houses, aquaponics, and vermicomposting systems in West Bangka Regency.

PT Timah has also organized chili farming training for the Sinar Baru Farmer Association in South Bangka and shallot farming training for the Bina Tani Farmers Group in East Belitung Regency.

Amir, Chairman of the Sinar Baru Farmer Association, said that PT Timah has guided them in chili farming efforts to support food security and strengthen local agricultural commodities.

"PT Timah has provided us with business capital and technical assistance or training since 2023, and since then our harvest has increased and the quality has improved," he said.

Similarly, Dedi Junaidi from the Bina Tani Farmers Group in Dusun Ganse stated that their shallot farming activities continue to grow with support from PT Timah.

"The prospects for shallot farming are actually quite promising, especially now that PT Timah is mentoring us. We've also received shallot cultivation training that has broadened our knowledge, so in the future, we’ll be able to improve our farming based on what we've learned," he said.

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the company’s agricultural programs are part of its efforts to contribute to national food self-sufficiency.

"The agricultural sector is the backbone of Indonesia’s food security. Through collaboration with the government, farmers, and businesses, we are committed to building a sustainable and competitive agricultural system," he said.
