PANGKALPINANG -- Sports are essential elements in improving the quality of public health. Community sports activities must also be accompanied by adequate facilities and infrastructure.
Therefore, PT Timah, through its environmental and social responsibility program (ESR), often assists in providing facilities and infrastructure for community sports around mining areas.
In 2023, PT Timah supported the development of community sports facilities and infrastructure. Additionally, it supported various community sports tournaments.
Supporting community sports activities is not only an effort to maintain public fitness but also a way to nurture potential athletes at the village level.
In the previous year, PT Timah provided assistance to several clubs and villages to support community sports facilities and infrastructure. One of which was providing aid to a Volleyball group in Tanjung Niur Village, Tempilang District, West Bangka Regency.
Moreover, as a member of the Mining Industry Holding MIND ID, it also supported the Open Football Tournament in Belo Laut in 2023. This tournament is one of the annual sports competitions participated in by various villages.
PT Timah also supported the development of volleyball facilities and infrastructure in Air Bulin Village, West Bangka Regency.
Furthermore, the New Football Association (PSB) of Gantung Village, Gantung District, East Belitung, received sports facilities assistance from PT Timah Tbk.
The chairman of PSB, Mawardi, expressed gratitude for the assistance from PT Timah Tbk. The aid would be used for the football team's equipment needs.
"We indeed requested assistance for equipment, such as footballs, vests, U12 and U10 goal posts," said Mawardi.
According to Mawardi, the club was established in 2000, but it had a different name back then and is now known as PSB Gantung Village. Currently, PSB focuses on nurturing U10, U12, U14, and U16 teams.
For him, PT Timah Tbk's assistance would be very beneficial for the children during training.
He hoped that PT Timah Tbk would continue its commitment to supporting sports development in East Belitung, to provide opportunities for existing teams in the area.
Similarly, the representative of the youth and volleyball athlete from Tanjung Niur Village, Topan, said that the assistance from PT Timah would be used for sports facilities and infrastructure to support community sports activities.
"The assistance from PT Timah will be used to purchase nets, volleyballs, and team uniforms," he said.
Meanwhile, the Administration Officer of Tanjung Niur Village, Sidik Abdullah, hoped that with the assistance from PT Timah Tbk, volleyball sports in Tanjung Niur would develop.
"With PT Timah's assistance for volleyball facilities and infrastructure, we hope that this sport will continue to develop. Volleyball has many enthusiasts. We are grateful to PT Timah Tbk for supporting volleyball sports," he said. (*)
