Environmental sustainability is key to ensuring a balance between economic growth and nature conservation. For this reason, PT Timah continues to strengthen its commitment to integrated environmental management from operational aspects, starting from exploration, production and post-operation.
Environmental management programs carried out by PT Timah include reclamation, reforestation, waste management, use of new and renewable energy, coral restoration, maintaining biodiversity.
In reforestation, PT Timah collaborates with the Regional Government, youth groups, communities and fishermen to plant trees. On its 48th anniversary, PT Timah also promoted the planting of 48,000 trees in the company's operational areas.
Apart from that, PT Timah also supports the Semarak Babel program initiated by the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government to reduce critical land in Babel.
Not only that, on the coast, PT Timah also often plants mangroves, this year PT Timah is targeting to plant 45,000 mangrove trees in the Company's operational areas.
In terms of reclamation, PT Timah carries out land and sea reclamation because tin mining is carried out offshore and onshore. Land reclamation carried out by PT Timah is by carrying out revegetation or planting. In 2023, PT Timah reclaimed an area of ??299.47 hectares and in 2024 it plans to reclaim an area of ??396.5 hectares.
Meanwhile, for marine reclamation, several programs carried out by members of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding include sinking artificial reefs, planting mangroves, restocking mangrove crabs, installing abrasion barriers and others.
