PT Timah to Continue Facilitating BPJS Employment Social Security for Fishermen and Vulnerable Groups

PANGKALPINANG – In 2024, PT Timah will again provide social security through BPJS Employment for fishermen and vulnerable groups. This program, initiated in 2022, aims to offer formal social protection that ensures the safety and well-being of these groups.

Since its inception, the program has benefited hundreds of fishermen. By the end of 2023, 959 fishermen and vulnerable individuals were registered with BPJS Employment, all facilitated by PT Timah. BPJS Employment provides social benefits such as workplace accident insurance and death coverage, offering vital protection for workers.

As a member of the MIND ID mining industry holding, PT Timah collaborates with local governments, fishermen’s associations, and community groups to identify participants eligible for BPJS Employment under this initiative. PT Timah covers the BPJS premiums for one year, lightening the financial burden on recipients.

Recently, PT Timah and BPJS Employment Pangkalpinang handed over death claims to the families of fishermen enrolled through the company's CSR program. This initiative is more than symbolic; it represents a concrete effort by PT Timah to improve the quality of life for fishermen.

"PT Timah has taken the initiative to provide social security for fishermen through BPJS Employment membership. This protection is expected to give peace of mind to fishermen and their families," said PT Timah's Head of Corporate Communications, Anggi Siahaan.

BPJS Employment Pangkalpinang Head, Abdul Shoheh, praised PT Timah for its care not only for workers but also for the surrounding community. The company provides accident and death coverage for fishermen and other vulnerable groups.

“PT Timah's support goes beyond providing fishing equipment—it also includes BPJS Employment. While compensation cannot replace lost loved ones, it helps ease the financial burden on families and supports children's education,” Shoheh stated.

He added that the program is a testament to PT Timah's concern for the community, raising awareness that BPJS Employment is not just for company workers but also for independent workers like fishermen, farmers, and other self-employed individuals. (*)
