PT Timah Tbk’s Timah Mengajar Program, Tiara: A Platform for Teachers and Students to Create

BANGKA SELATAN – PT Timah Tbk, in collaboration with the Semangat Berkarya Membawa Perubahan (Sekawan) community, conducted a workshop on Scientific Writing for Teachers as part of the Timah Mengajar program for educators in Bangka Selatan Regency.

The training, held at the multipurpose hall of the Bangka Selatan Education Office, brought together 30 teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools across Bangka Selatan on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

The Timah Mengajar program is part of PT Timah's efforts to foster a culture of literacy within the company’s operational areas.

Kurniati, Chair of the Sekawan Literacy Community, expressed hope that PT Timah would continue to support her community and local educators in advancing literacy in various regions.

“From this workshop, we aim to produce a book of opinion pieces by teachers passionate about literacy. These materials will also be integrated into schools to create books of pantun (traditional rhymes) representing the local culture. The synergy between literacy communities and the education sector builds mental strength and promotes local cultural traditions,” she explained.

She also praised PT Timah’s significant role and contributions to education.

“Our activities have always been fully sponsored by PT Timah Tbk. Without partnerships in education, something feels missing. PT Timah’s presence has been extraordinary in helping us improve education and drive literacy,” she added.

Meanwhile, Tiara Apiliza, a participant and Indonesian language teacher at SMP Negeri 8 Toboali in Rindik Village, expressed her gratitude for being part of the program.

“As an Indonesian language teacher, activities like these are highly engaging. Literacy is currently a priority that needs to be enhanced, not just among teachers and students, but also within schools and the broader community,” she said.

Tiara found the Timah Mengajar program highly inspiring, especially with its focus on turning teacher and student works into published materials.

“The Timah Mengajar program by PT Timah is extraordinary. Hearing that we’ll be creating opinion pieces and a collection of pantun is both exciting and challenging for me. Knowing these works will be compiled into a book makes it even more thrilling,” she remarked.

She hopes PT Timah Tbk will make such programs a regular initiative and extend them to students in schools.

“I hope this activity doesn’t end here. It should be ongoing, not only for teachers but also for students. With a platform to showcase their work, students’ creations could be compiled and even published, providing motivation and recognition for both teachers and students,” she said.

“May PT Timah continue to thrive, prosper, and contribute positively to Bangka Belitung, especially Bangka Selatan, in education. I hope PT Timah keeps advancing education in Bangka Selatan,” she concluded.

Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah, Anggi Siahaan, reiterated the company’s commitment to improving education in its operational areas through programs like Timah Mengajar.

“PT Timah remains committed to supporting education. Various initiatives have been implemented, including Timah Mengajar. This program aims to foster a culture of literacy in schools and communities,” Anggi explained. (*)
