PT Timah Tbk's Concrete Steps in Preserving Animals, Forming PPS Alobi to Carrying Out Deer Breeding

PANGKALPINANG -- Indonesia is one of the mega biodiversity countries in the world with various types of flora and fauna. In fact, each region has different flora and fauna that are diverse and unique.

In the momentum of National Love for Puspa and Animals Day 2023, we remind you of the importance of protecting and preserving animals, especially those that are protected. Because animals play an important role in supporting the sustainability of the environmental ecosystem.

Efforts to preserve and rehabilitate rare and protected animals have been carried out by PT Timah Tbk since 2018. Together with the ALOBI Foundation, PT Timah Tbk formed the ALOBI Animal Rescue Center (PPS) which is located in Kampoeng AirANGKAng Reclamation, Riding Panjang Village, Bangka Regency.

PPS ALOBI AirANGKAng was built on ex-mining land that had been reclaimed by PT Timah Tbk. There are dozens of rehabilitation cages built to rehabilitate animals confiscated by the state, the results of law enforcement, those handed over to the community, and animals in conflict with humans.

Hundreds of animals have been rehabilitated at PPS Alobi AirANGKAng, rehabilitated animals such as birds, crocodiles, sambar deer, deer, gibbons, binturongs, Javan gibbons, bears, crocodiles, and various other species.

In this ex-mining land, PT Timah Tbk together with the Alobi Foundation are trying to restore the wild instincts of the animals so that later they can be released back into their natural habitat.

PT Timah Tbk also planted various trees to support the environmental ecosystem in the Alobi AirANGKAng PPS area so that it could speed up the process of returning wild instincts.

Apart from PPS Alobi AirANGKAng, PT Timah Tbk also maintains the preservation of animals in the environment which is carried out at Mini Zoo Kundur Park. In this area, there are many animals cared for such as iguanas, peacocks, rabbits, and spotted deer.

On Belitung Island, PT Timah Tbk also carries out sambar deer breeding at the Batu Besi Primary Mine. This sambar deer breeding is also considered successful because every year the population continues to increase.

The manager of PPS Alobi, Endi R Yusuf, said that the animal rehabilitation carried out at PPS Alobi is an effort to restore the wild instincts of the animals, as well as their physical and environmental readiness. So that when they are released later, the animals can survive and play a role in building the ecosystem as it should.

These rehabilitated animals will later be released into their habitat.

"We must move together to protect wild animals, especially since animals play a role in supporting the environmental ecosystem and food chain," said Endi recently.

He said PT Timah Tbk had shown its commitment to supporting the conservation of protected animals.

He hopes that the public can also take part in protecting and protecting animals by not carrying out illegal hunting and not destroying the animal ecosystem.

"PT Timah is very committed to implementing and supporting biodiversity, one of which is by protecting animals through PPS Alobi in AirANGKAng. We hope this will continue. Let's work together to protect and protect animals," he said. (*)
