WEST BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable environmental management across all of its operational areas. One concrete effort is being carried out by the Processing & Refinery Division of PT TIMAH Tbk.
Through a plastic waste reduction initiative packaged in the Eco Brick Program, PT TIMAH Tbk has taken a tangible step to reduce the volume of plastic waste in production areas.
The program begins with improvements to the waste sorting system at the source. The company has provided segregated trash bins with five categories to make it easier for employees to sort waste according to its type.
Head of the Corporate Communication Department of PT TIMAH Tbk, Anggi Siahaan, said that the company has prepared five-category segregated trash bins to facilitate proper waste sorting by employees.
“The Eco Brick Program is implemented at the Processing & Refinery Division of PT TIMAH Tbk as a concrete step by the company to reduce plastic waste. The program begins with sorting waste into five categories. Plastic waste is placed in reusable bins, while paper waste is placed in recycling bins. These facilities have been provided at several locations,” Anggi said.
In addition, PT TIMAH Tbk continues to encourage employees to be disciplined in sorting waste so that it can later be recycled.

“We encourage every employee to dispose of waste according to its color and category. This has become an important part of building an environmentally conscious culture within the company,” he explained.
The collected plastic waste is then managed by the Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (K3LH) Team and stored at a Temporary Storage Facility (TPS) for domestic waste around the office area.
Once accumulated, the plastic waste is processed into eco bricks, which are environmentally friendly bricks made from plastic materials that can be reused as construction materials.
“These eco bricks are similar to building blocks assembled into structures, but they are made from recyclable, environmentally friendly plastic. This is a real example of plastic waste reduction,” he added.
Anggi also noted that the implementation of this program aligns with the national campaign initiated by the Ministry of Environment, which promotes plastic waste reduction.
“Our campaign aligns with the national ‘No Plastic’ theme. Therefore, we refer to this initiative as a plastic reduction program,” he concluded.
In addition, PT TIMAH Tbk also supports the Tanjung Elok Bersahabat Waste Bank located in Tanjung Subdistrict, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency, as part of a community-based environmental management effort.
Through the Eco Brick Program, PT TIMAH Tbk reaffirms its commitment not only to mining operations, but also to environmental preservation, while encouraging environmentally friendly behavioral changes among its employees. (*)
