PT TIMAH Tbk Supports the Preservation of Customs and Culture, Strengthening Local Community Identity

PANGKALPINANG -- Customs and culture are not merely relics of the past, but the very identity of a community. Amid the rapid pace of globalization, local cultural values serve as markers of identity as well as social bonds that help maintain harmony in society.

Across various regions, traditions continue to live on and are passed down from generation to generation. From traditional rituals and performing arts to meaningful cultural celebrations, all reflect invaluable local wisdom and cultural richness.

PT TIMAH Tbk plays an active role in supporting the preservation of community customs and culture in its operational areas through its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs.

The TINS-listed company consistently provides support for a wide range of traditional and cultural activities, including customary events, cultural festivals, and religious traditions that are an integral part of community life.

In Bangka Regency, PT TIMAH, together with the Mapur Indigenous Community, has developed the Gebong Memarong Traditional Village, a cultural site that continues to exist in Air Abik, Gunung Muda Village, Bangka Regency.

The Gebong Memarong Traditional Village has now become an educational tourism destination for people of all generations who wish to learn about the Mapur Indigenous Community. It features traditional houses, cultural elements, and preserved customs. PT TIMAH also supports the Nuju Jerami tradition in this area.

In West Bangka Regency, PT TIMAH consistently supports the Perang Ketupat festival in Tempilang Village and the annual Rebo Pusaka ritual at Setana Jering Amantubillah.

In Karimun Regency, PT TIMAH also supports the Lampu Colok Festival, which is held every Ramadan in collaboration with local youth groups.

The Head of the Mukalimus Youth Association in Sawang Village, Azyar, expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH’s contribution in supporting the annual Lampu Colok Festival during Ramadan.

He explained that the Lampu Colok Festival is a long-preserved tradition, especially during the 27th night of Ramadan. In addition to serving as a form of Islamic outreach, the event also becomes a platform for youth creativity, often presented through competitions at the regency level.

“We are very grateful because this support helps preserve our community’s traditions. PT TIMAH has consistently supported this event,” he said.

In other operational areas, PT TIMAH also plays a role in supporting cultural preservation activities such as cultural festivals and other community-based traditions.
