EAST BELITUNG - PT Timah Tbk provided support in the preparation and implementation of the 2024 Belitong Unesco Global Geopark (UGG) revalidation.
Because, at the time of revalidation, a reassessment will be carried out to determine whether Belitong has UGG Belitong or not.
The Head of the East Belitung Bappeda, Mathur Noviansyah said, in the revalidation process later, they will also propose several new geopark sites such as Batu Begalang, Kelubi Village, Buku Limau Island, and the additional Nam Salu Open Pit.
The three locations proposed for revalidation are expected to be accepted by all. The number of geosites to be revalidated is around 17 geosites and could be more.
According to him, currently, all geosites on Belitung Island, both Belitung and East Belitung, are starting to prepare for the revalidation process.
PT Timah Tbk's assistance meant a lot to Belitong UGG because the assistance was used to help prepare for the process.
"PT Timah Tbk's assistance means a lot to Belitong UGG, and this assistance will be used for activities that will determine the success or failure of the Belitung Geopark in the revalidation," he explained.
So, PT Timah Tbk's assistance supports advisory activities carried out by BP Geopark Belitung with the arrival of the Secretary General of UNESCO Global Geopark Network (GGN) Guy Martini a few months ago.
"He has visited and he gave a positive and appreciative impression the developments that have occurred since he first came to Belitung, and these changes cannot be separated from the role of PT Timah Tbk and the support of PT Timah Tbk," he explained.
Mathur added, the role of PT Timah Tbk was very meaningful and the benefits for the Belitong Geopark were felt. He hopes that PT Timah Tbk will continue to support BP Geopark Belitong.
This is because in the future much can be adapted from what PT Timah Tbk has done, such as in the conservation or revitalization of ex-mining land and educational activities.
"We at Kelapa Kampit have a geological information center, now that shows the historical side of tin mining history in Beltim in particular, now that in present we hope that PT Timah Tbk will play a more helpful role, assist and synergize with BP Geopark Belitong," he said.
