BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk demonstrated its commitment to supporting the development of student sports and community sports by supporting the Open Tournament of the Indonesia Taekwondo Fun (ITF) Inter-Student Championship in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
The event, organized by the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, was held on December 13–14, 2025, at GOR Orom Sungailiat, Bangka Regency.
A total of 200 participants, ranging from elementary school (SD) to senior high school (SMA) levels across the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, took part in the tournament.
The event treasurer, Nidia Asih Kurnia Hak, expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s support, which was considered instrumental to the smooth implementation of the championship.
“The assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk was very helpful in ensuring the success of the event, from operational needs to the provision of medals and competition equipment. This support means a great deal to us as organizers,” she said.
She explained that the tournament had previously been inactive and was revived with the hope of serving as a platform for developing student athletes while also improving the performance of taekwondo athletes in Bangka Belitung.
“Thank God, the participants’ enthusiasm was very high. This also became KORMI’s first event in Bangka Belitung, making it an initial step to revive the spirit of community sports,” she added.
The championship featured various categories, including Pre-Cadet, Cadet, and Junior, using an open tournament system open to taekwondo clubs throughout Bangka Belitung.
In addition to the sporting competitions, the event was enlivened by an UMKM bazaar, aimed at supporting the local community’s economic activities around the event venue.
She expressed hope that the collaboration between PT TIMAH Tbk and KORMI would not be limited to this single event, but would continue through various other sporting events in the future.
“We hope this cooperation and collaboration can continue to develop larger-scale championships in the future, even reaching the national level, while also supporting sustainable athlete development,” Nidia concluded.
PT TIMAH Tbk’s support for student and community sports activities aligns with the company’s commitment to building a generation of young people who are sporty, disciplined, and productive, while encouraging the public to remain physically active amid the challenges of modern lifestyles that are increasingly attached to digital devices.
