WEST BANGKA — PT TIMAH Tbk continues to promote community economic independence in its operational areas by providing assistance to the Berkah Jaya broiler chicken farmers group in Cupat Village, West Bangka Regency.
The support from PT TIMAH Tbk is expected to improve the productivity and welfare of broiler farmers, strengthen the village-level economy, and contribute to local food security.
This initiative is part of PT TIMAH Tbk’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which focuses on developing community economies through the empowerment of productive sectors.
Cupat Village Head, Gegha Khris Kharisma, stated that this assistance is greatly needed by the Berkah Jaya group to help develop their chicken farming business.
According to him, the broiler farmers in the village have faced challenges in obtaining sufficient capital to expand their businesses. Therefore, the support from PT TIMAH Tbk has motivated the group members to further develop their poultry farming efforts.
“The assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk has eased the group’s burden related to capital constraints, and they feel very helped. In the past, our community relied heavily on tin mining—both on land and at sea—but now people are starting to shift towards the agriculture and livestock sectors,” he said.
He also noted that PT TIMAH Tbk’s support for the poultry farmers aligns with the Village Government’s efforts to strengthen food security. In the future, he hopes that Cupat Village can become a center for poultry farming.
“The Village Government is currently in the process of building chicken coops through the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) to develop poultry farming businesses in support of food security. What PT TIMAH Tbk is doing to help the farmers is certainly in line with our own efforts to strengthen food resilience,” he added.
According to Gegha, this is not the first time PT TIMAH Tbk has assisted their village residents. The company has also frequently provided social and religious aid, such as sacrificial animals and assistance for houses of worship.
“We hope that PT TIMAH Tbk will continue to contribute to supporting the community and promoting various social and economic activities,” he expressed.
The livestock empowerment program is expected to become a new economic driver at the local level while creating new job opportunities in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
Through its various CSR initiatives, PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to contributing sustainably to the socio-economic development of communities surrounding its operational areas. (*)
