KARIMUN -- To protect the coastal ecosystem, PT Timah Tbk together with the Karimun Regency Fisheries Service planted 1,000 mangroves in the coastal area of ??the Sanur Coastal Area Bridge, Karimun, Thursday (24/8/2023).
Previously, PT Timah Tbk also frequently planted mangroves on the Kundur coast. Planting mangroves as a form of commitment to sustainable environmental management by PT Timah Tbk.
The mangrove planting was also attended by Karimun Regent Aunur Rafiq, Karimun Deputy Regent Anwar Hasyim, and Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) in Karimun Regency.
Aunur Rafiq said the planting of mangrove trees was a form of support for environmental preservation, especially preventing coastal abrasion.
"Mangroves have many benefits for the environment, one of which is to prevent coastal abrasion and become a supporting capacity for the restoration of marine ecosystem habitats," he said.
He invited all components of society to jointly protect mangrove forests in Karimun Regency.
"This environmental preservation activity is part of the fifth mission of Karimun development. Mangroves also provide many benefits for the environment and the economy," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Karimun Fishery Service, Ahmadi said, as many as 435 mangrove planting participants consisted of representatives from the government, private companies, OKP, and CSOs.
"Planting mangroves is part of the agenda for the President's visit to the GTRA event. The goal, besides being able to overcome coastal abrasion, is at the same time a place for marine biota such as fish to take refuge," explained Ahmadi.
