SOUTH BANGKA — PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to supporting the development of community sports has once again been demonstrated through its support for the Karang Taruna Rias Cup I Volleyball Tournament, held at the Sport Center Field in SPA Hamlet, Rias Village, Toboali District, South Bangka.
The tournament was attended by 80 teams, consisting of 32 women’s teams and 48 men’s teams, with club participants from villages across South Bangka Regency. This event became one of the largest village-level volleyball tournaments and successfully attracted strong enthusiasm from the community across various areas.
Chairman of the Karang Taruna Rias Cup I Organizing Committee, Imam, said the tournament was an important momentum to revive the spirit of sports at the village level while also strengthening bonds among residents.
“The public enthusiasm has been extraordinary. So far, around 40 matches have been played, and the final will be held on January 17. Out of 53 villages in South Bangka, a single village can even send three to eight teams,” said Imam.
Karang Taruna Rias Cup I has become one of the events considered lively and has received a positive response from the community.
“This event was actually planned since the anniversary of Rias Village several years ago, but it could only be realized this year. Public enthusiasm has been very high—from the opening until now, the response has been excellent,” he added.
PT TIMAH Tbk’s support was considered crucial to the success of the event, ranging from facilities and coaching to awards for the athletes.
Beyond its impact on the sports sector, the tournament has also had a positive effect on the local economy. During the event, an MSME (UMKM) bazaar was held, involving at least 30 MSME players from Rias Village.
“The social and economic impact is very tangible. MSMEs are thriving, the economy is moving, and the community is greatly helped. To this day, the positive impact has been enormous for Rias Village,” Imam explained.
Various local culinary products and handicrafts were marketed during the tournament, providing a promotional platform while also increasing the income of small business owners.
