BANGKA — PT TIMAH Tbk has released tens of thousands of fish seeds into former mining voids located within the company’s operational areas. This activity is part of the company’s ongoing community empowerment and sustainable environmental management program.
This time, PT TIMAH released fish seeds in six mining voids located in the Pemali Village area, Bangka Regency, on Saturday (October 25, 2025). A total of 15,000 tilapia fish seeds were released, including at the Pemali Drinking Water Pit. The release was carried out by several Division Heads of PT TIMAH Tbk.
This fish stocking activity is one of the company’s environmental management efforts to utilize post-mining land while also enhancing the local economy. It aligns with the implementation of Good Mining Practices adopted by the company.
The former mining pits are expected to serve as freshwater fish farming ponds that can encourage local communities to manage the voids productively, both for consumption and income generation.

PT TIMAH Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that this activity is part of the company’s efforts to support environmental recovery and the economic resilience of communities around mining areas.
“PT TIMAH Tbk not only focuses on mining operations but is also committed to ensuring that post-mining areas bring benefits to the community. Through this initiative, former mining voids can be utilized for productive activities such as fish farming, which has economic value,” he said.
According to him, using former mining pits for aquaculture also supports community food security and opens new business opportunities in the inland fisheries sector.
Fish stocking activities will also be carried out in other operational areas of the company as part of efforts to optimize former mining pits to support environmental conservation and deliver economic impact to local communities.
This fish stocking program aligns with PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to water resource management, terrestrial ecosystems, and local economic growth.
Through various initiatives like this, PT TIMAH Tbk strives to generate sustainable benefits from every post-mining area—ensuring they are not only environmentally friendly but also socially impactful for surrounding communities. (*)
