BELITUNG -- PT Timah Tbk has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation through a mangrove planting initiative along the coastal area of Dusun Dudat, Lassar Village, Belitung Regency, on Thursday (December 4, 2025).
The mangrove planting activity was attended by the Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of the Belitung Regional Secretariat, Syamsudin, Lassar Village Head Triska Arafat, and local residents.
This mangrove planting program is part of PT Timah Tbk’s efforts to strengthen coastal ecosystems within mining-adjacent areas while supporting the rehabilitation of coastal zones that play a vital role in environmental resilience and the community’s economy.
Syamsudin, Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of the Belitung Regional Secretariat, expressed his appreciation for the initiative. According to him, mangrove planting is a strategic step toward safeguarding Belitung’s future, which relies heavily on the health of its coastal areas.
“Mangroves are more than just plants; they are guardians of the future. They protect the shoreline from erosion, provide habitat for marine life, and store blue carbon that helps slow climate change,” he said.
The Belitung Regency Government, Syamsudin added, places significant attention on improving environmental quality, including coastal rehabilitation and strengthening the green economy.
“With collaboration among the government, companies, communities, and the public, I believe efforts to protect the environment will bring extraordinary benefits for future generations,” he stated.
He hopes that environmental preservation commitments like those demonstrated by PT Timah Tbk will continue sustainably.
Meanwhile, Lassar Village Head Triska Arafat expressed his gratitude for PT Timah Tbk’s support in protecting the coastal environment.
“We are very grateful that Dusun Dudat has received support from PT Timah. This means PT Timah also cares about preserving our marine environment,” he said.
Triska explained that most residents of Lassar Village work as fishermen, making ocean sustainability essential for the continuity of their livelihoods.
“Hopefully the mangrove seedlings we planted today will grow and become a legacy for our future generations. Mangroves are extremely important for the lives of coastal communities,” he added.
PT Timah Tbk has consistently carried out mangrove planting across various coastal regions as part of its efforts to restore ecosystems, prevent erosion, and support sustainable community economies. The planting in Dusun Dudat is a concrete step by the company to maintain environmental balance for Belitung’s future. (*)
