KUNDUR -- In order to reduce the impact of abrasion that occurs on the coast, PT Timah Tbk installed an abrasion barrier embankment at Padang Kundur Beach, Kundur Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency, Thursday 07/09/23.
Efforts to prevent abrasion are also being made by planting mangroves in the area together with the community. Including in installing this abrasion barrier, PT Timah Tbk also involved the community.
The existence of this abrasion-retaining embankment is felt by the local community to be beneficial, because they are no longer worried that water will enter their houses.
"I am happy with the installation of abrasion barrier embankments carried out by PT Timah Tbk, so that my family and I no longer worry about water reaching our yard when the tide is high," said Sri Handayani, a resident of Padang Kundur.
Sri explained that the distance between her house and the beach is quite close, so that during the rainy season and the water is high tide, her yard is often flooded.
"Now, with the abrasion barrier embankment installed by PT Timah, in addition to preventing and reducing the impact of abrasion, high tide water will no longer inundate home yards," he said.
Likewise, Saidi, a resident of Padang Kundur, said he was very happy with the installation of the Abrasion Restraint carried out by PT Timah Tbk. He hopes that the existence of an abrasion barrier like this can reduce abrasion so that land and community settlements will be safer.
Meanwhile, the Village Head, Kundur Marhalim, appreciated the support of PT Timah Tbk which has made abrasion barriers that are beneficial for the community.
"There are many benefits to this. Apart from the beach not being quickly eroded which is dangerous for the people living around the beach location. In the future it can be used as a new tourist location in Kundur Village because around the location where the abrasion barrier is installed there is quite a fertile mangrove forest," he said.
Sahar, one of the teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Kundur Barat, said that he was very happy with the installation of this abrasion barrier embankment, because abrasion had caused the school location to be very close to the beach.
"The school building is far from the beach. Due to abrasion, the school building, especially the back wall of the school fence, has been damaged and is very dangerous," he explained.
This abrasion barrier installation activity received appreciation from the West Kundur District Head, Yusufian, according to him, the company's concern for the environment is quite high.
