PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah Tbk is committed to providing sustainable economic impacts for communities in mining areas. Throughout 2023, PT Timah Tbk implemented various programs under the Environmental Social Responsibility Program (TJSL) to stimulate the local economy.
The TJSL program by PT Timah Tbk covers many aspects, including education, health, economy, sports, community infrastructure, MSMEs, and disaster management. As a member of the mining industry holding MIND ID, PT Timah Tbk aligns its TJSL programs with the principles of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key TJSL programs implemented by PT Timah Tbk in 2023 include collaborating with fishermen to create fishing spots and Coral Gardens, pineapple planting in former mining areas, providing social security for fishermen, vulnerable groups, and people with disabilities.
In the education sector, PT Timah Tbk executed the Timah Teaches program, "Pemali Boarding School," and Teacher Competency Enhancement.
Additionally, as part of climate change mitigation, the company engaged in mangrove planting, youth competency development, infrastructure and social improvement, Oto Sehat (Timah Sekawa), TIMAH Go Healthy, and the enhancement of the capacities of the indigenous community "Orang Lom," as well as the improvement of the capacities of development partners and the ERG disaster response program.
Not only that, but PT Timah Tbk also supported the development of MSMEs through the Micro Small Business Funding (PUMK) program to assist in the capitalization of MSMEs. They also conducted training and workshops to enhance the competencies and capacities of MSMEs.
Towards the end of 2023, PT Timah Tbk provided sports facility assistance to the New Football Association (PSB) in Gantung Village, Gantung District, East Belitung. This assistance is part of PT Timah Tbk's collaborative efforts to support the development of sports in the Gantung Village.
PSB Chairman Mawardi expressed gratitude for the assistance from PT Timah Tbk, stating that the aid would be used for the needs of their football team, including footballs, vests, U12 and U10 goalposts.
Similarly, one of PT Timah Tbk's foster partners, Dahlena, mentioned the numerous benefits gained from being a PT Timah Tbk foster partner. Besides marketing assistance, they were also involved in various training programs.
"I hope the PUMK program by PT Timah Tbk continues because it greatly helps and facilitates MSME players to develop their businesses," she emphasized.
Echoing these sentiments, Chairman of the Fishermen of Kundur Barat District, Ahmad, who received fishing gear assistance from PT Timah Tbk's TJSL program, appreciated PT Timah Tbk's commitment to supporting the improvement of fishermen's gear.
"The majority of fishermen in Kundur Barat are traditional fishermen, so there are still many inadequate needs and equipment for them to use. Therefore, attention and support from the company are always needed," he said.
He hoped that with the assistance of fishing gear from PT Timah Tbk, it could enhance the economic well-being of the fishing community. "The good coordination and relationship between fishermen and the company that has been maintained so far must continue.
