PT Timah Tbk Implements 1000 Trees for the Nation Program to Mitigate Climate Change and Support Community Economy

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability through various ongoing reforestation programs, one of which is the '1,000 Trees for the Nation' initiative.

The 1,000 Trees for the Nation program is part of the company’s Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) efforts carried out in its operational areas. This program reflects PT Timah’s contribution to climate change mitigation and its concern for nature conservation.

In 2025, PT Timah has planted 1,200 productive and fruit trees, including 500 trees during the Occupational Health and Safety Month, 500 trees in the Balai Karya area of Bangka Regency, and another 500 productive tree seedlings in collaboration with the Pelangi Lestari Forest Farmers Group in Pongkar Village, Tebing District, Karimun Regency, to commemorate World Environment Day 2025.

The 1,000 Trees for the Nation program is a concrete step by PT Timah to support global efforts in slowing climate change. The trees planted include mango, durian, guava, and rambutan, which are well adapted to tropical climates.

Through this initiative, the company aims to expand green spaces, improve air quality, prevent erosion, and restore ecosystems in its operational areas.

PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, explained that planting fruit and productive trees provides not only environmental benefits but also social and economic value for surrounding communities.

“This program is part of the company’s social and environmental responsibility to help maintain ecological balance. The fruit trees will not only absorb carbon but will also produce yields that communities can benefit from, creating both ecological and economic value,” he said.

Anggi added that planting thousands of trees is part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which aligns with environmental, social, and economic aspects.

“The company hopes communities can also benefit from this program. So, it’s not just about protecting the environment, but also creating future economic opportunities from fruit harvests and other productive plants,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deny Haryadi, Chairman of the Pelangi Lestari Forest Farmers Group, said that most of its members are fishermen who have recently started pursuing alternative livelihoods through farming activities. With the planting of these productive trees, they hope to improve the economy of group members and the wider Pelambung Village community.

“Thank you for the seedlings provided by PT Timah, which open new opportunities for us to earn additional income. This is a big help for our families economy, and it’s not the first time PT Timah has supported us,” he said.

PT Timah Tbk remains committed to running sustainable business practices, ranging from post-mining reclamation and natural resource conservation to reforestation programs as part of its environmental preservation efforts.
