PT TIMAH Tbk Holds Ecoprint Training in Karimun, Promoting Cultural Preservation and Community Empowerment

KARIMUN -- As part of its commitment to preserving local culture and empowering communities, PT TIMAH Tbk organized an Ecoprint Batik Training program for residents in Karimun Regency.

The training, titled “Ecoprint Batik Training as a Medium for Cultural Preservation,” was held at Wisma Kundur PT TIMAH Tbk in Karimun Regency from November 18–21, 2025, and was attended by 20 participants from various areas on Kundur Island.

The session featured Bella Kartika Aprilia, the owner of Batik Sepiak, as the main speaker, and it was enthusiastically welcomed by participants. Bella introduced the concept of ecoprint, natural dyeing techniques, and the process of transferring plant patterns onto fabric. Through hands-on practice, participants were able to create their own ecoprint batik pieces.

This ecoprint batik training is part of PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to supporting the sustainability of Indonesian culture, particularly batik, which has been recognized as a global cultural heritage.

Through the ecoprint technique, participants were encouraged to use leaves, flowers, and surrounding plants to produce unique natural motifs without harmful chemicals, while also creating designs that reflect local identity.

One participant, Mira Azura, said she was excited and grateful to take part in the training. She gained much new knowledge, especially about ecoprint.

“This was very exciting because this is valuable knowledge that I had never learned before. From the first day, we were taught how to make templates, wax application, printing, dyeing, and even natural coloring using leaves from the garden. There were written batik methods, dip dyeing, and ecoprint,” she said.

She found the training very interesting because it introduced many new things. She hopes it will continue so more people can benefit.

“I’m really interested in ecoprint. I continued practicing using the leaf-hammering technique. This doesn’t stop here—it can also be developed at home,” she added.

Similarly, Anggita Aditya said the training provided motivation to develop ecoprint batik further, helping expand the variety of products they produce.

“I’m very happy with this ecoprint batik training. Hopefully in the future, I can continue improving my ecoprint skills, and we hope PT TIMAH Tbk will continue supporting us so we can keep growing,” she said.

She plans to develop and practice the skills she gained, including creating eight signature Karimun motifs such as the kundur leaf.

Meanwhile, Bella, the training instructor, noted the participants’ strong enthusiasm. She taught various batik techniques, ecoprint steaming techniques, natural dyeing methods, and more.

“Karimun already has its own uniqueness, such as the kundur leaf motif. This needs to be developed so it becomes the signature of this region and differentiates ecoprint batik here from other regions. This will eventually create a new branding for the area,” she explained.

She hopes PT TIMAH Tbk will continue mentoring and guiding the participants so they can further develop various batik products.

“I hope this training doesn’t stop at just being a workshop, but becomes a community empowerment effort that can increase economic value here. Since 2019, we have been collaborating with PT TIMAH Tbk as one of their supported partners to train other MSMEs. So what PT TIMAH Tbk does doesn’t stop with us—we also pass on the knowledge to other PT TIMAH beneficiaries to improve their economic well-being,” she concluded.

Through this program, the company hopes more communities will be able to develop creative ecoprint-based products, encouraging new entrepreneurship and strengthening the local economy. Additionally, this initiative is expected to inspire younger generations to appreciate and preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
