PT TIMAH Tbk Helps Ease Medical Expenses for Teluk Radang Resident

KARIMUN -- To help ease the medical expenses of residents living in the company’s operational areas, PT TIMAH Tbk has provided financial assistance for medical treatment to Mardiana (42), a resident of Teluk Radang, North Kundur District, Karimun Regency, who is currently battling breast cancer and other related complications.

Mardiana was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022. However, her treatment was delayed due to financial limitations and fear of seeking medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

“I was afraid to go to the hospital during the coronavirus outbreak, so I stopped going for checkups. After the breast cancer surgery, thyroid problems appeared and the cancer spread to my lungs. There are lumps on both sides,” she said.

Mardiana is currently undergoing a series of chemotherapy sessions. She has completed the third out of six scheduled treatments.

In addition to chemotherapy at a hospital in Batam, she must also undergo routine blood tests at Tanjung Balai Regional General Hospital.

As a housewife, Mardiana admits she is overwhelmed by the cost of treatment and travel. Her husband works odd jobs, making their income uncertain. Their household earnings are not enough to cover the high costs of traveling to Batam for treatment.

“If we travel together, it costs at least one million rupiah. We’re confused about where to find the money. I still have many chemotherapy sessions to go,” she said.

The mother of two is very grateful for the assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk, which has helped reduce the burden of her medical travel expenses. She said she never expected to receive such support.

“Alhamdulillah, I’m very thankful. I never thought I would get this help. It really eases our burden for treatment,” she said emotionally.

Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, PT TIMAH Tbk continues to strive to support communities in need, especially those facing difficulties in accessing healthcare services. The assistance provided is expected to help ensure the continuity of Mardiana’s treatment.

With this support, Mardiana hopes she can continue her treatment without financial barriers.

“May Allah repay the kindness of PT TIMAH and everyone who has helped,” she concluded.
