PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah Tbk dispatched the Emergency Response Group (ERG) Team to assist in handling the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java, Monday (6/12/2021).
The team consisting of nine people will join the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Disaster Preparedness Command Post. Other than that, the team will distribute logistical needs and medicines needed by the victims.
“The ERG team dispatched by PT Timah Tbk is a team that is trained to handle the disasters. PT Timah Tbk also sends paramedics such as doctors and nurses," said Head of Corporate Communications of PT Timah Tbk, Anggi Siahaan, Monday (6/12/2021).
Anggi said that from Bangka Belitung the ERG Team of PT Timah Tbk brought 10,000 masks and several boxes of medicines needed by the victims. Meanwhile, logistics such as blankets, baby equipment and other necessities have been prepared through Jakarta.
"We also remind the team to continue implementing the Health Protocols because they are still in the Covid-19 pandemic situation. The team will also conduct a number of surveys to find out the specific needs of the residents, but for the first time we will focus on health and safety first,” said Anggi.
Furthermore, Anggi conveyed that the ERG Team had enough experience to help such as the Tsunami in Aceh, the Flash Flood in Pandeglang, the Earthquake in Lombok, Mount Merapi in Yogyakarta and a number of other local disasters.
One of the doctors who was dispatched, Dr. Zainal Arfan, said that with the condition of the eruption of Mount Semeru, there were several potential health hazards such as ARI, burns, and several other diseases.
"The eruption of Mount Eruption contains a lot of dust, plus the weather is getting hotter, so there is the potential for burns and ARI. That's why we brought masks, ISPA medicines, we also brought vitamins and equipment such as antigens because we are still in the Covid-19 pandemic situation," he said.
dr Zainal Added that his side will also continue to coordinate with the medical team at the Command Post to provide assistance to disaster victims.
"We will coordinate first, later what will become the specific needs of the residents because the first team departs," he concluded. (**)
