PT TIMAH Tbk Eases the Burden of Penutuk Residents After Tidal Flood Disaster

SOUTH BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk provided assistance to coastal residents affected by tidal flooding and strong winds in Pulau Panjang Hamlet, Penutuk Village, Lepar District, South Bangka. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the company distributed food packages to support residents who struggled to resume daily activities after the disaster.

The tidal flood, which occurred on November 12 around noon, caused panic among residents. The high tide, combined with strong winds, inundated coastal settlements, with seawater reaching into residential yards.

According to data from the hamlet, 280 people were affected, consisting of 80 households and 63 homes exposed to the flooding. Fortunately, there were no reports of severe damage to homes or public facilities.

The Head of Pulau Panjang Hamlet, Muhammad Tang, recounted how anxious the residents were when the incident occurred.

“At that moment, it was truly frightening. The high tide and strong winds came at the same time, and we were very worried,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by PT TIMAH Tbk, noting how meaningful it was for the community.

“Alhamdulillah, we are very thankful. We hope this assistance is beneficial and brings blessings to our community,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the South Bangka Office of Social Affairs, Women’s Empowerment, and Child Protection (PPA), Nasrullah, visited the location after the incident.

“Based on the information we received and our on-site inspection, the flood occurred around noon. Although it didn’t last long, residents were unable to carry out their activities for a while,” he explained.

Seeing the situation, PT TIMAH Tbk distributed food packages to help meet the basic needs of affected residents. This assistance serves as an initial form of support for communities still recovering their daily routines.

“On behalf of the South Bangka Regency Government, we extend our gratitude to PT TIMAH Tbk for their assistance and concern for the residents of Penutuk Village, especially Pulau Panjang Hamlet. We hope this kind of collaboration continues,” he concluded. (*)
