CENTRAL BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk distributed basic food assistance to communities affected by flooding in Central Bangka Regency. The aid was handed over directly to the Regional Secretary of the Central Bangka Regency Government, Ahmad Syarifullah Nizam, on Monday (January 12, 2025).
It was previously reported that several areas in Central Bangka Regency were inundated by floods after heavy rainfall hit the region. The assistance, consisting of 300 basic food packages from PT TIMAH Tbk, will be distributed to the affected areas.
The Regional Secretary of Central Bangka Regency, Ahmad Syarifullah Nizam, expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s support in helping disaster-affected communities.
“On behalf of the Central Bangka Regency Government, we would like to express our deepest gratitude. This is a form of partnership and concern shown by PT TIMAH Tbk in being present among communities in need as an expression of compassion and care to help others,” said Ahmad Syarifullah.
Similarly, the Head of the Social Affairs, Community Empowerment, and Village Office (DinsosPMD) of Central Bangka Regency, Fadhlillah, stated that this assistance is very meaningful considering that high rainfall has caused flooding in several areas such as Lubuk Besar, Lubuk Lingkuk, Perlang, Nibung, and Berok Subdistrict.
“Based on the data we collected together with the Village Consultative Bodies, there are more than 280 residents affected. In Dusun Nadi, there were even three housing units swept away by the strong river currents,” Fadhlillah explained.
He added that in addition to basic food assistance, residents are also in great need of medical teams, as post-flood environmental conditions are prone to causing diseases.
One of the areas receiving basic food assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk was Berok Subdistrict. The Head of Berok Subdistrict, Teguh Prabowo, stated that around 40 households are still dealing with standing floodwater.
“On behalf of the residents, we would like to thank PT TIMAH Tbk for the assistance provided to the community. There are around 40 households here, including six toddlers, who have been affected. This assistance is very beneficial because, until now, several residents’ homes are still flooded,” said Teguh. (*)
