PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk continues to strive to support the improvement of the economy of coastal communities and fishermen groups in the company's operational areas.
This MIND ID mining industry holding member took proactive steps to empower fishermen groups and coastal communities. The initiatives carried out by PT Timah Tbk show that the company's business processes can be in line with the welfare of local communities and environmental preservation.
PT Timah Tbk supports the activities of fishermen groups by handing over fishing gear assistance, improving business facilities and infrastructure for fishermen groups, and repairing fishing boats for fishermen groups in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and Riau Islands Province.
In addition to supporting facilities and infrastructure for fishermen groups, PT Timah Tbk also empowers fishermen groups and coastal communities. Empowerment is carried out by involving fishermen to create coral gardens and fishing grounds in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
Meanwhile, in the Riau Archipelago Province, precisely in Kundur, PT Timah Tbk often involves groups of fishermen to plant mangroves as an effort to protect coastal ecosystems, install abrasion barriers, and restock mangrove crabs.
PT Timah Tbk provided fishing gear assistance in the form of outboard engines, ketinting engines, boat engines, fishing gear in the form of wire traps and fish finders, and fishing nets. As well as boat repair assistance and infrastructure facilities for developing fishing businesses.
Through the improvement of facilities and infrastructure, it is hoped that it will increase the catch of fishermen which will have an impact on increasing the welfare of fishermen groups.
In addition, PT Timah Tbk also provides social security in the form of Employment BPJS for fishermen groups. This TINS-coded issuer also often helps fishermen who experience sea accidents.
To support fishermen's activities, PT Timah Tbk recently also handed over assistance to repair fishermen's huts for the Harapan Baru Fishermen group, Rebo Village, Bangka Regency.
The chairman of the Harapan Baru Fishermen's group, M.Ridwan, PT Timah Tbk assisted in the construction of fishermen's shelters and used for weighing the fish caught by fishermen.
With the help from PT Timah Tbk, he said they would build a semi-permanent fishing hut, a fish weighing area, and a parking lot for fishing vehicles.
"Alhamdullilah, this assistance from PT Timah Tbk is very helpful. We can immediately build fishermen's shelters, vehicle parking areas, and fish weighing points," he said.
M. Ridwan said that this is the second time their groups have received assistance from PT Timah Tbk. In 2021, they received three units of 9.8 PK outboard engines from PT Timah Tbk.
"Previously, PT Timah Tbk also provided outboard engine assistance to our group. Alhamdulillah, this has produced and provided income for our group," he said.

KUB Setia Abadi Fishermen Group, Asrul said that their group members were greatly helped by the assistance of machines for their members.
He hoped that with this new machine, their group members could increase their catches.
