KEPULAUAN RIAU – PT Timah Tbk, in collaboration with the Marine Aquaculture Center (BPBL) Batam, conducted a five-day training program on "Maintenance and Breeding of Barramundi Fish" for members of the Pokdakan (Community Fish Farming Group) Tuah Bersatu.
The training took place from December 10-14, 2024, at BPBL Batam, attended by Pokdakan Tuah Bersatu members.
Previously, PT Timah has continuously supported and guided Pokdakan Tuah Bersatu in their fish farming activities.
Young Aquaculture Analyst Uray Henry Istrada explained that this training focused on barramundi breeding, starting from selecting broodstock. The program was divided into two sessions: theoretical classes and practical fieldwork.
"Alhamdulillah, the participants were very enthusiastic about the training. They were eager to learn about breeding techniques, which is a valuable new experience for them," Uray Henry said.
He praised PT Timah Tbk's role in nurturing the Pokdakan group.
"We deeply appreciate PT Timah's contribution to developing this community. Their support has been invaluable, not only for this group but also for expanding opportunities to other groups. Through this, communities can gain knowledge and become economically self-sufficient," he added.
Amran, Chairman of Pokdakan Tuah Bersatu, expressed gratitude for PT Timah Tbk's continuous attention and opportunities for his group to gain knowledge.
"We are thrilled with PT Timah's support. Without them, we might not have had the chance to visit BPBL Batam and learn so much. This training has motivated our group to expand barramundi farming," Amran stated.
He also highlighted that PT Timah's support has enhanced the group's recognition, even attracting interest from an investor in Malaysia.
"Thanks to PT Timah, our group is better known, and we've gained investor interest, which is a blessing for us. This progress is undoubtedly linked to PT Timah's guidance," Amran noted.
The training provided Pokdakan members with deeper insights into managing barramundi farming.
"We learned critical points, including breeding techniques, identifying male and female barramundi, selecting appropriate feed, determining feed portions, and caring for hatched eggs to ensure successful propagation," Amran explained.
He added that this training builds upon a 2023 program, where PT Timah facilitated a session focused on barramundi cultivation but primarily covered the fish's growth phase.
"This time, we delved into the breeding process in greater detail. With this expanded knowledge, we are even more enthusiastic and confident about developing barramundi farming," Amran concluded. (*)
