BELITUNG TIMUR -- PT TIMAH Tbk demonstrated its commitment to education by providing medical assistance to Anggun Lestari, an 11th-grade student at SMAN 1 Damar, East Belitung Regency.
The assistance was provided to support treatment for Anggun’s vision impairment so that it would not hinder her learning activities. The handover of the aid was witnessed by the Principal of SMAN 1 Damar, Nizar, along with teachers on Friday (January 30, 2026).
Principal Nizar explained that Anggun has been experiencing vision problems that significantly disrupt her classroom learning. The condition often causes her eyes to water and affects her ability to see clearly, especially when reading and following lessons.
“When she tries to study, her eyes often water, which interferes with her learning. Next year, Anggun will face the Academic Ability Test (TKA) and exams, so this condition needs to be addressed immediately,” Nizar said.
He added that Anggun comes from a low-income family but has a strong passion for learning and is one of the school’s high-achieving students. This became the school’s main consideration in applying for assistance.
“She is diligent and high-performing. Her parents informed us about the financial difficulties for her treatment through the teachers, and then we coordinated further. Since this concerns her vision and educational future, we believe Anggun deserves support,” he explained.
Nizar further noted that in addition to assisting with Anggun’s medical expenses, PT TIMAH Tbk has also supported the school by helping to build the school gate.
“For that reason, we are very grateful that PT TIMAH Tbk stepped in to provide assistance. This is not only about facilities and infrastructure, but it directly supports the educational process and the real needs of students,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s consistent commitment to improving the quality of human resources, especially in communities around the mining areas.
“Honestly, we are very thankful. This assistance may seem small, but it has a big impact on Anggun. We hope that with this treatment, she can continue studying well and maintain her achievements.
