EAST BELITUNG - To support the construction of public worship facilities, PT Timah Tbk handed over construction assistance to Surau Babul Jannah, Hamlet Merdeka, Senyubuk Village, Kelapa Kampit District, East Belitung.
The assistance was given directly by PT Timah Tbk Belitung Production Unit Head Achmad Haspani to Babul Jannah Surau Management who is also the head of Surau Development, Ismansyah, Tuesday (30/5/2023).
Ismansyah said that the construction of this surau was a community initiative to provide facilities and infrastructure for Muslims in worship.
"That is the suggestion and recommendation of the community for a long time regarding the plan to build the surau," said Ismansyah.
He further stated, if the construction of the surau only relied on the village budget, this was quite large, so based on the hamlet deliberations, a committee was formed to realize the plans of the community around the hamlet.
Even though previously, he said, there had been a donor who promised to build a prayer room, but that had not materialized. So that the local community from the pillars of the household (RT) and the hamlet began independently building the surau foundation.
However, due to budget constraints, they made proposals and made accounts, and invited people who wanted to help.
"So every month the management reports and publishes the income results and the realization of the surau's construction," he explained.
He explained, their construction has continued for two years but not all of them have been completed due to funding constraints. So they consulted with the local Pemdes, but not all of them could be fulfilled by the Village Government.
So they applied for assistance from PT Timah Tbk and received assistance to accelerate the completion of the surau construction.
"So we can be calm because the building can be finished up to the roof later so that the building can be closed from rain and heat," he explained.
"PT Timah Tbk's assistance is very meaningful because it can secure buildings that are already standing, such as sills and others," he explained.
Ismansyah explained PT Timah Tbk was very responsive and quick in realizing the assistance for the surau development, because one week after being given the proposal, the PT Timah Tbk team immediately visited the construction site.
"So PT Timah Tbk really cares about the needs of the East Belitung people," he said.
