PT Timah Tbk Assists Construction of Tanjung Gunung Fisherman Wharf Talus

CENTRAL BANGKA – PT Timah Tbk handed over assistance for the construction of a talus at Fishermen's Wharf, Tanjung Gunung Village, Pangkalan Baru District, Central Bangka Regency.

This talud is needed by the fishermen because the fishermen's mooring pier is often hit by waves which cause the boats that are docked at the pier to be damaged. The location of the pier, which is directly opposite the South China Sea, is frequently hit by waves directly every year.

Because of this, the Head of the Tanjung Sejahtera Fisheries Cooperative La Ludi (50) and other fishermen took the initiative to make a breakwater or talud.

"With the assistance from PT Timah, we feel very helpful. And hopefully it can reduce the waves hitting the fishermen's boats. In 2022, around three of our fishing boats were damaged by the waves," said La Ludi.

Apart from the damaged boats, according to La Ludi, there are also many fishing boats that are rusty and cause them to sink.

"As a result of this incident there were quite a lot of material losses for our fishermen friends, so we took the initiative to build a wave barrier," he said.

According to him, the construction of this talud not only makes it easier for fishermen, but also has an impact on other sectors.

"With the talut we hope that a similar incident will not happen again. Apart from that, the construction of this talut is intended as a breakwater as well as a supporting facility towards access to tourism and also as a liaison between villages," he said.

La Ludi appreciates PT Timah Tbk's commitment to helping the community in their village, not only fishermen. But PT Timah Tbk's assistance also touched on various other aspects.

"Alhamdullilah, the presence of PT Timah in our village is very much felt for us. Because we have received a lot of contributions from PT Timah, for example a reading garden for children, making FADs, and many more," he said. (*)
