PT TIMAH Tbk and the West Bangka Regency Government Join Forces to Support Tidal Flood Victims in Mentok, Provide Food Assistance for Residents

WEST BANGKA -- Heavy rainfall with high intensity that hit the West Bangka region starting Saturday (December 6, 2025), combined with rising sea tides, caused tidal flooding in the coastal area of Tanjung Subdistrict, Mentok, through Monday (December 8, 2025).

The high tide, which held back river flow, inundated residential areas and public facilities, disrupting community activities, including home cooking.

As a form of concern and quick response to the emergency situation, PT TIMAH Tbk immediately distributed assistance to affected residents through the Public Kitchen operated by the West Bangka Regency Government.

The aid provided included rice, cooking oil, sugar, coffee, instant noodles, mineral water, sardines, eggs, and other food supplies needed to support the community, especially those who were unable to cook due to flooded kitchens.

The assistance was handed over by the Division of Processing and Refinery of PT TIMAH Tbk, represented by Sofian Simangunsong, and received directly by the Head of the West Bangka Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Syafrizal, who was accompanied by the Head of the Social Affairs and Village Administration Office, Akhmad Nursandi, on Monday (December 8, 2025).

The Head of BPBD West Bangka, Syafrizal, explained that conditions in Tanjung Subdistrict remain under control despite the area being hit by heavy rain and tidal flooding, with tide levels reaching up to 4.2 meters.

“The situation is still under control. Even though we were hit by heavy rainfall and then struck again by tidal flooding in the morning, thank God everything could be managed thanks to the collaboration of the Forkopimda, related agencies, neighborhood units, and the community. There were no casualties. We remain on alert and urge residents to stay vigilant for any possible situation,” said Syafrizal.

He also expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s support in assisting field operations.

“We extend our gratitude to PT TIMAH for collaborating to assist affected residents. This aid means a lot in reducing the burden on the community, especially those who cannot cook yet because their kitchen equipment is still submerged,” he continued.

According to Syafrizal, the most urgent need for residents at this time is ready-to-eat meals, as many households are still unable to use their kitchens due to the flooding.

Similarly, the Head of the Social Affairs and Village Administration Office of West Bangka, Akhmad Nursandi, also expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk’s concern and consistent presence during emergency situations.

“Thank you to PT TIMAH for always caring for residents affected by disasters. The assistance distributed through the Social Affairs Public Kitchen has greatly helped the community. Beyond social aid, PT TIMAH is also active in various other social activities, including medical assistance, religious programs, and community events,” he said.

Through this assistance, PT TIMAH Tbk hopes to ease the burden on residents and support post-disaster recovery efforts in the West Bangka region. (*)
