JAKARTA -- PT Timah Tbk TB Batu Besi received one Gold Proper in the 2023 PROPER Environmental Award and Regional Environmental Management Performance from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).
This award was presented by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia K.H. Ma'ruf Amin accompanied by Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Alue Dohong and the Proper Council to PT Timah Tbk Representatives at the Bidakara Hotel Jakarta, Wednesday (20/12/2023).
Apart from achieving GOLD PROPER, the TINS ??Coded Issuer also achieved Green PROPER which was achieved by PT Timah Tbk Muntok Metallurgical Unit, PT Timah Tbk Kundur Production Unit, PT Timah Tbk UPDB TB Pemali, PT Timah Tbk UPDB TB Paku.
Meanwhile, Proper Biru was won by PT Timah Tbk UPDB South Bangka, PT Timah Tbk UPDB Bangka, PT Timah Tbk UPDB West Bangka, PT Timah Tbk Belitung Production Unit and PT Timah Tbk Balai Karya.
Indonesian Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin said that the world is currently facing three environmental crises: climate change, loss of biodiversity, and environmental pollution.
According to him, the Proper Program is a platform for taking part in sustainable development to prevent pollution from industrial activities, so that business entities do not only focus on profits but also pay attention to the social environment, both physical and social.
"Proper should be a compass that can guide sustainable business practices by applying green economic principles, and even encourage achievements that exceed industry compliance with environmental regulations," he said.
The Vice President said that the increasing number of companies taking part in the Proper assessment and the increase in achieving Gold and Green Proper could be an indication that more companies are realizing their role in environmental management.
"The majority are at the blue level, next year I hope green and gold.
"Companies that are still at the black and red levels are accelerating their efforts to improve corporate governance and meet environmental standards set by the government," he said.
Furthermore, he said that Proper was changing the company's TJSL paradigm, not just about sharing aid but also about community empowerment and independence.
"To the recipients of the gold rank proper and the CEOs, I congratulate everyone. Hopefully, this achievement can become a real example that inspires and encourages the performance of other companies," he said.
Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Alue Dohong said the Proper Award was an award for the work of the business world in environmental management, eco-innovation, social innovation, and green leadership.
This year's Green Leadership Company theme is Extraordinary Turnaround which explains that there are five leaps to maintain the continuity of the earth and humans, namely Poverty Alleviation, Reducing Inequalities, Empowering Women, Healthy Food Systems for humans and ecosystems, and changing the energy system to increase efficiency and transition towards clean energy.
"3,694 participants attended this year's Proper. Gold Proper was 79 companies, Green Proper was 196 companies, Blue Proper was 2,131, Red Proper was 1,077, black was none, 212 companies were postponed," he said.
PT Timah Tbk Batu Besi implements eco-social innovation through the Integrated Badau Belitung Indonesia Pineapple Innovation Program (Protein Nabati) which is PT Timah Tbk's effort to implement an environmental management program that utilizes ex-mining land to plant Badau pineapples.
This member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding involved the Aik Jelutung Farmers Group in cultivating Badau pineapples on ex-mining land. Apart from that, PT Timah Tbk also involves the 2Y MSME group which consists of women's groups to process pineapple products. (*)
