PT Timah Synergizes Environmental Rehabilitation and Green Energy through Solar Power Plant on Ex-Mine Land

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah continues to support national energy transition efforts by using environmentally friendly energy in the company's operational areas. One of the concrete steps taken is the utilization of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) as part of the implementation of green energy in the company's operational environment.

PT Timah built and operates PLTS on ex-mining land, to be precise at Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang in Bangka Regency and at Kampong Reklamasi Selinsing in East Belitung Regency.

The operation of PLTS on ex-mining land is in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as a pilot center for the use of new renewable energy in former mining areas in the form of an Energy Techno Park.

Currently, there is a RoofTop Solar Power Plant (10.5 KWP) in Air Jangkang Reclamation Kampoeng and a Floating Solar Power Plant (10.5KWP) in Selinsing Reclamation Kampoeng. The solar system at Air Jangkang utilizes an ON-Grid System which does not require batteries for energy storage but is directly connected to the PLN electricity network.

The utilization of solar power plants in Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang and Kampoeng Reklamasi Selinsing can absorb carbon emissions of 51.8223 tons Co2 in 2023-2024.

Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang and Kampong Reklamasi Selinsing are integrated areas between the agriculture, livestock, plantation and education sectors. So that the existence of cattle, goat, chicken farming areas, at this location, can also be utilized as a source of biogas for direct utilization into biogas stoves.

The utilization of PLTS is a form of PT Timah's support for the government's target of increasing the mix of New and Renewable Energy (EBT). By utilizing abundant and sustainable solar energy, PLTS is a strategic solution in answering the challenges of energy needs while preserving the environment.

“Sustainability is PT Timah's main key in running the business. Through the utilization of PLTS, the company not only improves energy efficiency, but also forms the Company's commitment to reduce dependence on fossil energy,” said Department Head Corporate Communication of PT Timah Tbk, Anggi Siahaan.

This green energy initiative is also one of the company's strategies in achieving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets which are increasingly becoming a standard in sustainable business practices.

“This step is the company's commitment to green energy, because the company is not only focused on business growth, but also responsible for environmental and social impacts,” Anggi said. (*)
