PT Timah Supports Waste Management by Repairing Waste Containers in Bangka Regency

BANGKA -- To support environmental and waste management programs in Bangka Regency, PT Timah has provided infrastructure assistance in the form of waste container repairs to be used for household waste collection.

The assistance was handed over directly by PT Timah's Division Head of Engineering & Operation Excellence, Muhammad Ihsan, to the Head of the Bangka Regency Environmental Office, Ismir Rachmaddinianto, during the "HARI-CERDAS" program — short for Helipad, Green, Neat and Beautiful – A Reflection of Environmentally Friendly Education and Dedication to a Healthy Nature — held at the Helipad Balai Karya area, Air Kantung Subdistrict, Sungailiat District, Bangka Regency, on Thursday (July 3, 2025).

Ismir Rachmaddinianto expressed appreciation for the collaboration and synergy that has been established with PT Timah in implementing environmental management efforts.

"Our collaboration with PT Timah in environmental programs has been running well, such as joint clean-up activities, the deployment of artificial reefs, and support for sanitation facilities," he said.

Ismir noted that this time, PT Timah is supporting the repair of waste containers so that they can once again be used for household waste collection and help prevent littering.

"Today, PT Timah provided infrastructure support by repairing waste containers that will be used to collect household waste," he added.

He also appreciated PT Timah’s contribution to the KSM Resam compost house, which received plant seedlings for greening initiatives, as well as the provision of waste sorting bins for SDN 1 Pemali, an Adiwiyata-designated school.

"Together with PT Timah, we’ve initiated community-based environmental movements to encourage residents to care for the environment and manage waste properly. We hope this synergy and collaboration will continue going forward," he said.

In addition to the clean-up activity, the Engineering & Operation Excellence Division of PT Timah also provided several other forms of support to the Bangka Regency Environmental Office, including waste containers, plant seeds for the Nangnung Village Farmers Group, wood to be processed by the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) into biomass, fruit tree saplings for the KSM Resam compost house, and trash bins for SDN 1 Pemali. This event also marked the first shipment of biomass products from PT Timah Balai Karya to METI.

The event also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the planting of Angsana trees to support energy resilience and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in 2025. The MoU was signed between PT Timah's Engineering & Operation Excellence Division and the Bangka Regency Environmental Office at the Balai Karya Industrial Area in Sungailiat. (\*)
