WEST BANGKA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the development of student sports achievements by facilitating the venue for the Gala Siswa Indonesia (GSI) junior high school-level competition across Mentok District, held from May 11–13, 2026, at the Division Processing and Refinery Soccer Field.
The event, aimed at identifying and developing young student football talents, was attended by students from six junior high schools in Mentok District. Participants showed great enthusiasm as they competed and demonstrated their best abilities to represent their respective schools.
PT TIMAH supported the event by providing the Division Processing and Refinery soccer field in Mentok as the competition venue. This support is part of the company’s contribution to encouraging the growth of young talents in sports.
One of the participants, Denino Arifin (15), a student of SMP Negeri 4 Mentok who plays as a midfielder, said he was motivated to continue developing his skills through the GSI competition.
“My goal is to compete at the district, provincial, and even national levels,” he said.
A similar spirit was expressed by Rendi (16), a student of SMP Negeri 6 Mentok who plays as a goalkeeper.
“Hopefully, I can be selected as the goalkeeper for the district-level GSI team,” he said.
Chairman of the Mentok District GSI Committee, Arizona, explained that the Division Processing and Refinery Soccer Field of PT TIMAH was chosen because of its strategic location and its suitability for student football competitions.
“In addition to being strategically located, this field already meets the standards for student football competitions. The environment is safe, and we are not charged any fees — we only need to submit a field loan request letter,” he said.
According to him, PT TIMAH has consistently supported various student sports activities in the Mentok area by facilitating the use of the soccer field.
“Every year, we can easily borrow this field. The events are always safe and run smoothly. We are grateful for the support and hope PT TIMAH will continue to enhance its support for student sports activities. Thank you, PT TIMAH,” he added.
In the final match held on Wednesday (May 13, 2026), SMP Negeri 3 Mentok emerged as the champion. SMP Negeri 1 Mentok secured second place, followed by SMP Negeri 4 Mentok in third place and SMP Negeri 6 Mentok in fourth place.
Next, the committee will select the best players to form the Mentok District GSI team, which will compete at the district level. A total of 18 top players will be chosen to represent Mentok District in the next stage of the competition. (*)
