PT Timah Supports One Million Tree Planting Movement in Bangka Belitung Islands Province

PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah is participating in the mass tree planting movement of one million trees initiated by the Police of Bangka Belitung Islands Province at the Sahabuddin Sports Complex on Thursday (October 17, 2024).

Nur Adi Kuncoro, Director of Operations and Production of PT Timah, attended the event along with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Bangka Belitung to plant eucalyptus trees.

This tree planting aligns with PT Timah’s efforts towards sustainable environmental management and reducing the environmental damage in Bangka Belitung.

In its environmental management efforts, PT Timah collaborates with various parties such as local governments, community groups, and other stakeholders.

Recently, in celebration of the company’s 48th anniversary, PT Timah launched a campaign to plant 48,000 trees across its operational areas. Trees planted include mangroves, local trees, and fruit plants.

PT Timah’s environmental preservation efforts go beyond tree planting and consistently involve the reclamation of former mining sites.

Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Sugito praised the One Million Tree Planting activity organized by the Bangka Belitung Police.

“I greatly appreciate this initiative led by the Police Chief. Planting one million trees is a manifestation of our responsibility to the Earth. With the global situation, especially climate change, we face immense challenges, so we must start with small actions, starting from families, neighborhoods, villages, and eventually at the provincial level,” he said, as quoted from the official website of the Bangka Belitung Islands Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, Bangka Belitung Police Chief, Hendro Pandowo, expressed hope that this tree planting effort would improve the environment, not only physically but also serve as a moment of hope for the people of Bangka Belitung to rebuild, improve welfare, and achieve a cleaner and greener Bangka Belitung Islands.

“We report that over the past three years, we have planted 266,000 tree seedlings across 255.4 hectares of land. Today, simultaneously across all police precincts in Bangka Belitung, we are planting approximately 4,000 tree seedlings on 27 hectares of land,” he explained. (*)
