KARIMUN -- PT TIMAH Tbk supported the Memancing Silaturahmi Berkah Fishing Competition organized by the Sawang Youth Community in Sawang Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency, as part of its commitment to encouraging youth engagement and community activities.
The event served not only as a fishing competition but also as an opportunity to strengthen community ties while showcasing the tourism potential of the coastal area to visitors from various regions.
Supported by PT TIMAH, the competition attracted approximately 280 participants from different areas. Contestants competed by fishing from the shoreline, with winners determined based on the species and weight of the fish they caught.
Aprizal, Secretary of the Sawang Youth Community and a member of the organizing committee, said the event was designed to strengthen community relationships, encourage young people to participate in positive activities, and promote Batu Besar Beach as a tourist destination in West Kundur.
"The purpose of this event is to strengthen community ties, provide a positive platform for young people, and promote Batu Besar Beach so it becomes more widely recognized as a tourist destination," he said.
Aprizal added that PT TIMAH's support played an important role in ensuring the smooth implementation of the event, particularly by helping meet operational needs.
"We are truly grateful for the assistance. PT TIMAH's support for our operational needs helped ensure that the event ran smoothly," he said.
According to Aprizal, the people of West Kundur have benefited from PT TIMAH's various community programs, which address local needs through environmental conservation initiatives and social development activities.
He cited mangrove planting programs, the construction of coastal wave barriers to reduce erosion, and support for religious and educational activities as examples of initiatives that have provided tangible benefits to the community.
"Our community has experienced the benefits of PT TIMAH's various programs, including mangrove planting, the construction of wave barriers, and support for religious and educational activities. These initiatives have been very beneficial to the community," he said.
Aprizal expressed hope that community-focused programs such as these would continue, allowing even more residents to benefit from PT TIMAH's contributions.
"We hope activities like this, along with PT TIMAH's other community programs, will continue. Many people have already benefited from these initiatives, and we hope their positive impact will reach even more communities in the future," he said. (*)
