KARIMUN -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the preservation of local customs and culture in its operational areas. One example is its support for the Festival Lampu Colok, an annual tradition that enlivens the holy month of Ramadan in Karimun Regency.
The assistance was provided to support the construction of lamp gateways for several groups, including youth organizations in West Kundur District such as Ikatan Pemuda/Pemudi Layang, Ikatan Pemuda Kosonk Kobel Darat, Sawang Laut Village, and Himpunan Pemuda Pemudi Mukalimus in Sawang Subdistrict.
This support is used to build decorative gateways using both traditional oil-based lamps (pelita) and electric LED lights, which are part of the competition categories in the Festival Lampu Colok.
Chairman of Himpunan Pemuda Pemudi Mukalimus, Azyar, expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH’s contribution in supporting the event. According to him, the assistance has greatly helped the community in preparing for the festival, which has become an annual agenda in Karimun Regency.
“We are using this assistance to prepare the installation of electric lights, which will be set up starting from the 27th night of Ramadan until Idulfitri. This year, we are building a mosque-shaped gateway in the Mukalimus Beach area, decorated with neon lights,” he said.

He explained that the Festival Lampu Colok is a long-preserved tradition, especially during the 27th night of Ramadan. In addition to serving as a form of Islamic expression, the event also becomes a platform for youth creativity through competitions at the regency level.
“The preparation can take up to a month and involves many young people working together. It is a positive activity that fosters creativity while strengthening togetherness,” he added.
Azyar also mentioned that PT TIMAH has supported community activities several times, not only in Mukalimus but also in other areas across Karimun.
“We are very grateful because this assistance helps preserve our community’s traditions. We hope PT TIMAH continues to grow and remains consistent in supporting community activities,” he said.
