PT TIMAH Supports Biodiversity Conservation, Eight Animals Return to Their Habitats

SUMATERA SELATAN - PT Timah Tbk together with the Alobi Foundation and The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of South Sumatra again released animals to their natural habitat. This time there are eight animals released in the Padang Sugihan Wildlife Reserve Area, South Sumatra, Saturday (10/22/2021).

The animals released are two bido eagles (spilornis chela), two bondol eagles (Haliartus Indus), one pariah eagle (Milvus migraine), and two Sumatran lorises (Nycticebus coucang), and one parrot.

This animal release activity was attended by Finance Director of PT Timah Tbk, Wibisono, Head of BKSDA Sumsel Ujang Wisnu Barata, PPS ALOBI Manager Endy R Yusuf and others

The eight animals released are translocation animals from PPS Tegal Alur Jakarta that have been rehabilitated at the Alobi Animal Rescue Center (PPS) in Kampoeng Reclamation of Jangkang Water. These animals are released in South Sumatra because it is indeed their natural habitat.

PT Timah Tbk fully supports PPS activities as the company's commitment to maintaining animal sustainability and ecosystem sustainability. In fact, this TINS Coded issuer is actively involved in the release of animals conducted with Alobi and BKSDA South Sumatra.

Pps Alobi Foundation Manager Endy R Yusuf said the animal had been declared fit to be released into its natural habitat. According to him, if released in Bangka Belitung this is not in accordance with the original endemic that is potentially not in accordance with the ecosystem, such as Sumatran Kukang can not be released in Bangka Belitung.

Endy explained, this release supports PT Timah Tbk, according to him, not only this release, PT Timah Tbk became the main sponsor in PPS Alobi in Bangka Belitung. He assessed PT Timah Tbk, committed and consistent in efforts to conduct animal rehabilitation, especially in PPS Alobi Air Jangkang.

"ALOBI in carrying out duties in PPS is also fully supported by PT Timah Tbk so the main sponsorship ranging from providing land, facilities, and infrastructures such as cages, operations, animal feed, and others, PT Timah Tbk provides 37 cages for animal rehabilitation," Endy said.

Currently, Endy said since the establishment of PPS Alobi in 2018 there are almost 500 animals rehabilitated in PPS. However, about 400 more animals have been released into their natural habitat because they are considered to have a return to wild instincts. Currently, the animals that are being rehabilitated in PPS have as many as 103 students consisting of various types.

"Until now, PT Timah Tbk is still very supportive of the ALOBI foundation for wildlife conservation in Babylon. Where PPS Alobi has coverage of Bangka Belitung and South Sumatra and this is the only one in the sumatera region, "he explained.

Endy does not deny that at this time, only PT Timah Tbk is consistent in supporting wildlife conservation activities. He mentioned, PPS managed by PT Timah Tbk with Alobi is a PPS pilot project that is fully supported by the company. In the future, he hopes that more and more companies will be moved to exemplify what PT Timah Tbk has done.

"This is arguably a PPS pilot project managed by local NGOs with state-owned enterprises because the existing PPS of Indonesia is managed by foreign parties. We also encourage other mining companies in Babylon to do the same because this mining activity will intersect with the environment," he said.

For this reason, according to Endy, his party on various occasions often conveys to the public that PT Timah Tbk is one of the companies that are quite concerned with wildlife conservation.

"On every occasion, we try to explain the state-owned PT Timah one of the companies that support wildlife conservation, because this is rare and maybe first, this we continue to promote to support local NGOs in wildlife conservation. "More and more companies will do this," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of South Sumatra Ujang Wisnu Barata expressed his appreciation to PT Timah Tbk which has partnered with ALOBI in assisting its party in conducting wildlife conservation.

According to him, PT Timah has long shown concern for animals, this is seen from PT Timah Tbk which has bagged a deer breeding permit. Then since 2018, PT Timah has given full support related to the Animal Rescue Center.

"We with PT Timah have often interacted, PT Timah has a breeding permit, and our partner Yayasan Alobi is partnering with PT Timah Tbk, as we know PT Timah Tbk is very supportive of Alobi's activities in saving and rehabilitating animals to release animals back to their habitat. We appreciate this," he said.

According to him, his party will present an award to PT Timah Tbk in this release event, this is a form of appreciation of PT Timah which has shown its concern in maintaining animals.

Admittedly, there are not many mining companies that have concern and focus on animal conservation. According to him, what PT Timah Tbk has done has helped his party.

"Not many mining companies have concerns like this and this is good because it focuses on one thing wildlife conservation. So it is very helpful for BKSDA South Sumatra, especially Alobi's cooperation with PT Timah Tbk that includes rescue, release, education, a campaign to the community. In this way, PT Timah Tbk not only helps save animals but also educates the public about the importance of maintaining animals for the sustainability of the ecosystem," he said.

According to him, what PT Timah Tbk has done with the Alobi foundation has a broad impact on the community, the sustainability of the ecosystem.

"The impact is quite large, especially about public education, why the animal should be returned to its habitat, not maintained. This needs to be done together to educate the community so that the emergence of awareness, and now it has begun to arise awareness. We are not only maintaining the sustainability of animals but also maintaining the ecosystem," he said.

It is not easy indeed, he said, many challenges faced such as the existence of poaching, encroachment of conservation areas, and another overlapping land that causes disruption of ecosystems that impact on animals.

"It's our common duty to maintain and maintain the role of animals in one ecosystem because each animal has its own role," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Finance Director of PT Timah Tbk, Wibisono conveyed PT Timah Tbk's commitment to maintaining animal sustainability and environmental conservation. This is in line with the company's efforts in implementing integrated mining by applying the principles of Good Mining Practices.

"PT Timah is committed to the sustainability, sustainability and conservation of animals and biodiversity that are part of the company culture," he said.

"Animals have an important role in maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem, so it is appropriate for us to be able to maintain and preserve it," he said. (**)
