BELITUNG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to support the development of religious education in its operational areas. One such initiative is the provision of assistance for the construction and improvement of learning facilities at the Tahfizhul Qur’an Permata Belitung Islamic Boarding School in 2026.
The educational assistance, provided as part of PT TIMAH’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program, is expected to help the boarding school meet its need for adequate classrooms, allowing educational activities and student development programs to be carried out more effectively.
Tahfizhul Qur’an Permata Belitung Islamic Boarding School, located on Permata 2 Street, Gang Berlian, Air Merbau, Tanjungpandan, provides not only formal education but also an afternoon Qur’anic education program (TPA).
Nur Khotim, Chair of the Tahfizhul Qur’an Permata Belitung Islamic Boarding School Foundation, said the school currently has approximately 45 students.
According to Nur Khotim, limited classroom space remains one of the challenges faced by the boarding school as it seeks to expand both its Qur’an memorization and formal education programs.
“We are still short of classroom space. PT TIMAH’s support has been very helpful in completing the learning facilities we need,” Nur Khotim said on Tuesday (September 8, 2026).
Nur Khotim explained that adequate learning spaces are essential to supporting educational activities, student development, and the Qur’an memorization program, which is a primary focus of the boarding school.
According to Nur Khotim, developing educational facilities is an important step in the boarding school’s growth. Previously, the foundation also faced challenges in providing educational facilities specifically designed to integrate formal education with the Qur’an memorization program.
“Alhamdulillah, the building is now in place. Our next step is to complete and further develop the classrooms so that educational activities can be carried out even more effectively,” Nur Khotim said.
Nur Khotim expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH’s support in developing the boarding school’s educational facilities. The support is expected to continue growing and create further opportunities for collaboration in advancing education for communities in Belitung.
“We hope that PT TIMAH will continue to strengthen its collaboration in supporting education and that the number of students at our boarding school will also continue to grow,” Nur Khotim said.
Furthermore, the presence of Tahfizhul Qur’an Permata Belitung Islamic Boarding School is expected to provide children in and around Tanjungpandan with a place to study and memorize the Qur’an without having to travel outside the region.
“Our goal in establishing this tahfiz Islamic boarding school is to nurture future generations of Qur’an memorizers. We also want children in the surrounding community to have a place where they can study and memorize the Qur’an without having to leave the region,” Nur Khotim said. (*)
