KARIMUN -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to community empowerment through livestock development programs. This initiative is part of the company’s efforts to support food security and improve the local economy.
This time, the company is supporting the Unggas Sejahtera Group in Sawang Laut Kobel Village, West Kundur District, in developing a poultry farming business that is now beginning to generate economic benefits for the community.
The head of the Unggas Sejahtera Group, Alizan, said that since 2025, the group has been assisted by PT TIMAH in developing their poultry farming business together with four other members.
“Since the beginning, PT TIMAH has supported us with chicken coops, chicks, and guidance. Initially, we only had 200 chicks, and it has now grown to 400. Currently, we are starting to develop our own independent breeding,” he said.
According to him, PT TIMAH has provided various forms of assistance, including chicks, construction of coops, and equipment support.
However, rising feed prices had caused the number of livestock to decline at one point. Despite this challenge, the business has continued to operate thanks to ongoing support from PT TIMAH.
To address this, the group also received equipment to produce their own feed, allowing them to reduce operational costs.
“From the beginning, PT TIMAH has supported us with coops, chicks, feed machines, and incubators. Now we are even able to produce our own chicks, so we no longer rely entirely on external suppliers,” he explained.
In addition to poultry farming, the area has also developed various other community-based sectors, such as fish farming, shrimp paste production, and hydroponic agriculture. This has transformed the area into an integrated community empowerment hub supported by PT TIMAH.
Alizan acknowledged that the program has provided tangible benefits in increasing the income of group members, many of whom also work as fishermen.
“Alhamdulillah, this poultry business has provided us with additional income. The demand for chicken and eggs is also quite high,” he said.
He hopes that PT TIMAH will continue to support them in expanding the business so that the group can grow and become more self-sufficient.
“We hope to continue receiving support, especially for the development of feed pellet machines so we can become even more independent,” he added.
This empowerment program is part of PT TIMAH’s commitment to fostering community economic independence through the sustainable utilization of local potential, while also strengthening food security in the company’s operational areas. (*)
