PT TIMAH Strengthens ERG Team, Prepares Humanitarian Responders for Emergency Situations

PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen the capacity of its emergency response team through the training of Volunteer Emergency Response Group (ERG) members as part of its efforts to prepare resilient, responsive, and ready personnel for various emergency situations and humanitarian missions.

This ERG volunteer training serves as an important momentum for the company to carry out regeneration while also ensuring the sustainability of its emergency response personnel. The activity was held at Graha Timah Pangkalpinang on Wednesday (June 3, 2026).

PT TIMAH’s ERG collaborated with the Pangkalpinang Search and Rescue Office, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, to provide training on basic disaster management knowledge, physical assessments, and disaster risk mitigation, which will be carried out continuously in collaboration with various stakeholders.

Previously, PT TIMAH opened recruitment for ERG volunteers as an effort to increase the number of personnel, which was met with enthusiasm from employees of PT TIMAH and its subsidiaries.

Chairman of PT TIMAH ERG, Ali Samsuri, stated that the formation of ERG volunteers is not merely about increasing the number of personnel, but about bringing in individuals with strong spirit, capability, and mental readiness to face emergency situations.

“We certainly do not expect disasters to occur, but if they do, we must be prepared. Disaster response often requires a long duration and sufficient personnel, so regeneration and the addition of members are essential,” he said.

According to Ali, the duties of ERG volunteers are not easy, as they are often faced with high-risk field conditions, ranging from natural disasters and landslides to evacuation situations that require both physical and mental resilience.

“These ERG volunteers will become humanitarian responders representing PT TIMAH. We must not be in a position where we ourselves need to be rescued at the disaster site. Therefore, preparedness, discipline, capability, and mental strength must be thoroughly developed,” he emphasized.

The ERG volunteer training also featured speakers from the Pangkalpinang Search and Rescue Office as part of the collaboration to strengthen disaster response capacity.

Head of the Resources Subsection at the Pangkalpinang Search and Rescue Office, Budi Setiawan, expressed appreciation for PT TIMAH’s commitment in developing emergency response volunteers and strengthening disaster management synergy.

“Emergency response cannot be handled alone. It requires synergy and collaboration. We appreciate PT TIMAH for continuously developing ERG volunteers, as their presence greatly supports more effective and efficient disaster response,” he said.

He explained that this training serves as an initial foundation for participants to understand the basic principles of emergency response, ranging from mitigation and first aid to safety principles in rescue operations.

“The most important aspect is safety. Do not let those providing assistance become victims themselves. Volunteers must have basic knowledge and continue to improve their competencies through ongoing training,” he said.

One of the volunteer participants from PT DAK, Wendra, expressed enthusiasm about being part of PT TIMAH’s ERG volunteers.

According to him, his background in the healthcare field motivated him to further develop his skills in emergency response and humanitarian missions.

“For me, this is a very valuable new experience. We do not expect disasters to happen, but if they do, we must be prepared and equipped with knowledge. Being part of this team is already a source of pride,” he said.

Through this ERG volunteer training, PT TIMAH hopes to build a stronger, more professional emergency response team capable of delivering quick and effective responses in supporting humanitarian missions and handling emergency situations in the future. (*)
