WEST BANGKA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to support humanitarian initiatives in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of West Bangka Regency, particularly in helping maintain an adequate blood supply for the community.
The collaboration between PT TIMAH and the West Bangka PMI includes support for the PMI Fundraising Month program as well as regular blood donation drives involving company employees.
As part of the commemoration of PMI’s 81st anniversary, PT TIMAH received an award for its active participation, commitment, and generosity as a donor in supporting the success of the 2025 PMI Fundraising Month.
The award was presented by Chairperson of the West Bangka PMI, Dr. Yovita Sari Metkono, to Sofian Simangunsong, Division Head of Processing and Refinery at PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk, at the West Bangka PMI Headquarters meeting room on Tuesday (September 22, 2026).
Yovita said PT TIMAH’s support extends beyond its contribution to the PMI Fundraising Month and includes the active participation of employees in blood donation activities.
According to her, blood donation drives, which were previously held mainly on special occasions, are now being developed into regular activities involving PT TIMAH employees.
“PT TIMAH is not only a partner of PMI in humanitarian and social programs, but we also carry out many programs together,” she said.
She noted that employee participation in blood donation activities provides dual benefits by helping maintain blood supplies while also fostering greater concern for others.
“In the past, blood donation drives were usually held on certain occasions, such as anniversaries. However, through our communication with PT TIMAH, we have been able to turn them into a regular program held three or four times a year, encouraging employees to donate blood,” Yovita said.
Yovita added that the West Bangka PMI also coordinates with PT TIMAH whenever additional support is needed to meet blood demand. Company employees have frequently stepped in as replacement donors when members of the community require blood.
“Whenever there is a need for blood, we contact PT TIMAH and ask for assistance from its employees. This has happened many times,” she explained.
PT TIMAH’s support for PMI also extends to social and environmental initiatives. Among these efforts, the West Bangka PMI and PT TIMAH have collaborated on tree-planting activities in the golf course area.
Yovita said the initiative is part of a joint effort to raise public awareness of environmental protection amid the challenges posed by climate change.
“We want to encourage the community to plant trees as one way of protecting the environment and our planet. Going forward, we also have plans for more humanitarian and social activities in collaboration with PT TIMAH,” she said. (*)
