PT TIMAH Joins Forces with West Bangka Community to Green Former Golf Course, Planting Pelawan and Banyan Trees

WEST BANGKA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk, together with the West Bangka Regency Government, students, and residents of Mentok, worked together to plant hundreds of trees at the former PT TIMAH Golf Course on Friday (August 28, 2026). The activity was part of a joint effort to protect the environment while expanding green open spaces in West Bangka.

The tree-planting activity followed a group healthy exercise session led by Sofian Simangungsong, Division Head of Processing and Refinery at PT TIMAH. The activity was attended by PT TIMAH employees, civil servants from the West Bangka Regency Government, students, community organizations, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and residents of Mentok.

Various types of trees were planted as part of the greening initiative, including cypress trees, glodokan tiang trees, pelawan trees, tabebuya trees, and banyan trees. The hundreds of trees are expected to grow and enhance the former PT TIMAH Golf Course area, transforming it into a greener, more beautiful, and more beneficial space for the community.

The greening initiative received an enthusiastic response from participants, including Feri Ardami, Head of the Waste Management and Cleanliness Division at the West Bangka Regency Environmental Agency.

Feri praised PT TIMAH for involving various elements of the community in the tree-planting activity.

“The Environmental Agency greatly appreciates this activity. Planting trees provides many benefits, particularly by increasing green open spaces and urban parks in West Bangka Regency,” Feri said.

According to him, greening activities not only benefit the environment but also serve as an educational opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting and caring for the surrounding environment.

“The more plants we grow, the greater the benefits and resources that can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life. This is an important form of education about caring for and loving the environment around us,” he said.

The involvement of students in the activity also served as an educational experience and a form of environmental awareness.

Safa, a student at State Junior High School 3 Mentok who participated in the tree planting, said the activity was in line with her extracurricular activities at school through the Youth Red Cross (PMR).

“This is part of our learning at school. I participate in the Youth Red Cross extracurricular program, which is part of the Indonesian Red Cross volunteer program. This activity is a form of social action and our concern for the environment around us,” she said.

Meanwhile, Fika, a resident of Pal 2 and an instructor at Java Air Club, said the activity organized by PT TIMAH provided multiple benefits for the community.

She said the activity began with exercise to maintain physical fitness and was followed by concrete environmental action through tree planting.

“PT TIMAH invited the community to live healthier by doing group exercise to maintain physical fitness, followed by efforts to keep the environment healthy through tree planting. So, today was truly a double-health day,” Fika said.

She hopes the former PT TIMAH Golf Course area will become better organized and be developed into a public space that provides broader benefits for the community.

“I hope this place will become more beautiful and greener in the future and can be used as a space for community activities, sports, MSMEs to sell their products, relaxation, and family recreation,” she said. (*)
