KARIMUN -- As part of the company’s commitment to environmental conservation and preventing worsening coastal erosion, PT Timah Tbk, through its Division Head of the Kundur Area, has carried out the installation of coastal barriers in its operational areas.
This time, PT Timah installed a 150-meter-long coastal barrier at Asmara Dewi Beach, located in Sawang Subdistrict, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency, on Tuesday (10/06/2025).
Previously, PT Timah also installed a 100-meter-long coastal barrier at Pongkar Beach in Karimun Regency, which is expected to help prevent and reduce coastal erosion in the area.
This initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to support coastal environmental preservation and protect nearby residential areas from the impacts of seawater erosion.
The installation received appreciation from the local community, as expressed by neighborhood leader and fisherman representative Azhar, who noted that it not only helps protect the beach but also enhances its visual appeal.
"On behalf of the residents and fishermen around Asmara Dewi Beach, I would like to thank PT Timah. This program is something we’ve been waiting for, as it not only protects the shoreline from erosion but also beautifies the area, making it possible to develop into a community tourism destination," he said.
A similar sentiment was shared by Saiful, a local resident living near the beach. He said the barrier brings him peace of mind.
"When the sea tide was high, we often experienced tidal flooding that reached our homes. Now, we feel much more secure. Many homes here are close to the shoreline and used to be impacted whenever the tide rose," he explained.
Sawang Subdistrict Head, Azman, also expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s initiative. According to him, this effort is highly beneficial and aligns with the community’s expectations.
"We from the subdistrict government fully support and appreciate PT Timah’s efforts. The installation of the coastal barrier not only helps prevent environmental damage but also protects residents living near Asmara Dewi Beach," said Azman.
Through this initiative, PT Timah Tbk demonstrates its strong commitment to supporting sustainable development, particularly in coastal areas. Beyond its operational activities, the company continues to actively care for the environment and create positive impacts for surrounding communities.
