PANGKALPINANG -- In an effort to enhance understanding of the obligation of zakat during the holy month of Ramadan and strengthen social awareness, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk held a webinar titled “Understanding the Difference Between Zakat Fitrah and Zakat Mal,” which was attended virtually on Thursday (March 12, 2026).
This activity is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen spiritual values while fostering awareness of zakat within the corporate environment, emphasizing that zakat is not only a religious obligation but also a form of mutual cooperation in helping those in need.
Through this webinar, the company hopes that PT TIMAH employees will gain a better understanding of zakat, particularly the differences between zakat fitrah and zakat mal, so that they can fulfill their obligations properly in accordance with Islamic teachings.
In addition to providing an understanding of zakat, the activity also served as a platform to strengthen the values of brotherhood and togetherness within the company.
The webinar featured Ustaz Dr. H. Muhammad Kurnia, Lc., M.Ag. as the speaker, who delivered material on zakat fitrah, zakat mal, and the wisdom behind zakat.
Ustaz Kurnia explained that zakat holds significant meaning in the lives of Muslims, both from spiritual and social perspectives.
He stated that zakat fitrah is a form of zakat paid during the month of Ramadan before Eid al-Fitr, aimed at purifying the soul of every Muslim after completing the fasting worship.
Meanwhile, zakat mal is zakat imposed on wealth that has reached the required nisab and haul, intended to purify one’s wealth while bringing blessings to the sustenance one possesses.
“Zakat fitrah purifies our souls, while zakat mal purifies our wealth,” he explained.
He also appreciated the theme of the webinar, noting that it reflects the growing awareness of zakat within the PT TIMAH environment. This awareness is expected to bring collective goodness and blessings to all employees and the broader corporate family.
“Hopefully this activity will bring benefits and goodness to all of us and become a path for the wealth we possess to be filled with greater blessings,” he said.
PT TIMAH employees also appeared enthusiastic in participating in the activity, as reflected by the many questions raised during the webinar.
In 2025, PT TIMAH received an award from the National Amil Zakat Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI). The award was given as an appreciation for PT TIMAH’s role in increasing literacy on zakat, infaq, and alms, as well as its commitment to providing zakat income services for employees through the BAZNAS PT TIMAH Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ).
