PANGKALPINANG -- In commemoration of the 118th National Awakening Day, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk held a solemn ceremony on Tuesday (May 20, 2026).
The ceremony was not only conducted at the head office but also simultaneously across all operational areas of PT TIMAH. This commemoration served as a moment of reflection to reaffirm the spirit of unity, independence, and national resurgence amid the challenges of the digital era.
At the head office, Deputy President Director of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk, Harry Budi Sidharta, acted as the ceremony inspector, with employees of PT TIMAH Tbk in attendance.
The 2026 National Awakening Day carries the theme “Nurturing the Nation’s Youth for National Sovereignty.” This theme emphasizes the importance of safeguarding and preparing the younger generation as the foundation for achieving a sovereign and self-reliant Indonesia.
On this occasion, Harry Budi Sidharta read the official message from the Minister of Communication and Digital of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Viada Hafid, who stated that National Awakening Day marks an important moment to commemorate the establishment of Boedi Oetomo in 1908 as a milestone in the rise of national awareness.
The spirit of National Awakening is a continuous process that evolves with the times without losing the nation’s identity. If in the past the struggle focused on achieving territorial sovereignty, today the nation faces new challenges in the form of information sovereignty and digital transformation.
“The spirit of 1908 marked a turning point where physical struggle transformed into intellectual and diplomatic efforts to uphold a dignified national sovereignty,” said the Deputy President Director while delivering the message.
The message also emphasized that nurturing the nation’s youth is a crucial part of achieving national sovereignty. The government continues to implement various strategic national programs that directly address basic public needs, ranging from the Free Nutritious Meals Program, equal access to education through Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Garuda, to Free Health Check-up services for the public.
In addition, the government is strengthening the protection of the younger generation in the digital space through Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection, also known as PP TUNAS.
The commemoration of the 118th National Awakening Day within PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk is expected to serve as a reminder for all employees to continue contributing to national development and to uphold the spirit of national awakening in facing future challenges.
