BELITUNG TIMUR -- Happiness radiated from the face of 66-year-old Nursen Nein, a resident of Dusun Taruna Mulia, Lalang Village, Manggar District, East Belitung. At her age, she finally realized her long-time dream of having a decent home, thanks to renovation assistance from PT Timah Tbk.
The assistance was symbolically handed over during the peak of the 49th Anniversary Healthy Week of PT Timah Tbk, held at Nyiur Melambai Beach, Lalang Village, in late July 2025.
Nursen admitted she was shocked and deeply moved when she received the news that her house would be repaired. Built in 1948, the house had grown fragile with age, with a leaking roof and rotting wooden walls.
“I never expected it at all. I couldn’t sleep last night because I was so happy. Finally, my house will be repaired, and the damaged parts will be replaced with new ones,” she said with sparkling eyes.
She often felt anxious, especially during bad weather in the rainy season, worried that the roof might collapse as the wood and walls had decayed over time.
For Nursen, this assistance means a lot. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been out of work, and her financial situation has worsened. She had long wanted to renovate her house, but limited funds made that dream seem impossible.
“The condition of the house really needed immediate repairs. The wooden walls had rotted, the roof was damaged, and even the supporting beams were starting to crumble. If left as is, it could collapse during severe weather. I’m truly grateful that this help came at just the right time,” she said.
The assistance from PT Timah will be used to repair the walls, replace window frames, repaint, and fix severely damaged parts of the house.
She expressed her gratitude, saying that receiving renovation assistance on PT Timah’s 49th anniversary was something she never imagined. Now, she can finally breathe easy without worrying that her house will collapse.
“Alhamdulillah, thank you PT Timah for helping us, the common people. I hope PT Timah will continue to thrive and help more people in need,” she said hopefully.
